Thriller sold nearly 30 million in the US alone and sold hugely almost everywhere but 104 million is definatly too high. Even if singles are included.

quote from bbc website about tonight's world music awards -

The 48-year-old also scooped a tribute award for selling over 100 million albums throughout his career.

so clearly Thriller hasnt sold 104 million, and the picture is fake since no guinness certificate would say "It remained in the Billboard 200 Top 10 for 80 Consecutive Weeks", an irrelevant fact since the award is supposedly for worldwide sales of Thriller!

sorry for ranting on about it...

You are wrong. It is a real certificate given to him. It was said that Thriller sold over 100 million on 'All Access Hollywood' and also on GMTV this morning.

Jacko even said it himself at last nights award show. To quote what he said from MTV.co.uk

He told the squealing audience, "I am greatly humbled by this award. When we created 'Thriller' my dream was for it to be the biggest selling album ever, and God has answered my prayers - 25 years later and it's sold 104 million copies. I thank God and I thank you."

Michael has sold closer to 300 million records so I am starting to beleive this is true somehow :o

That certificate is photoshopped.

I believe it is DOUBLE the sales of Thriller

He received the following awards:

Most Successful Entertainer of All Time

Youngest Vocalist to Top the US Singles Chart

First Vocalist to Enter the US Single Chart at Number One

First Entertainer to Earn More Than 100 million Dollars in a Year

Highest Paid Entertainer of all Time

First Entertainer to Sell More Than 100 Million Albums outside the US

Most Weeks at the Top of the US Album Charts

Most Successful Music Video

Nope. It is a REAL award. Here is a clip of Beyonce presenting him the award last night. She says it has sold over 104 million RECORDS, which usually means singles + albums which would make more sence.

There is confusion here.

World Music Awards, yesterday: He got an award for selling over 100m albums

Guinness Book of Records, the day before: He got 8 other awards.

That photoshopped image is based on a fictional Guiness Book of Records Award.

No, Beyonce has said that THRILLER sold over 104 million records (singles + albums). She said he has sold 750 million records which is far to high. But he has definalty sold over 300 million solo records so probebly passed 100m about 20 years ago

I don't believe the picture is photoshopped although it maybe fake.

If you take the image and expand it it looks like a real photo with ingraining.

I also read some time ago that History was the best selling double album

History in the Mix was best selling remix album.

Not sure if these records would still hold.
