Posted November 15, 200618 yr Well according to the BPI website, The Greatest Hits and #1's are both only have 1 cert for going platinum. BUT... Both have sold over 600k now #1's is on 648,440 and The Greatest Hits is on 634,125. These are sales for the UK up until 1st October 2006. I'm positive I made a thread AGES ago saying that TGH had been certified double platinum, but I don't remember where I got the information from. BPI still says only 1 cert. Mariah should update them, non?
November 15, 200618 yr What's the #1s album? Just her American #1s? Sorry for being thick :kink:
November 15, 200618 yr Yeh it is  and some extra songs! And I'm sure they will certify GH soon because Sony has paid for promo for it again in HMV etc
November 15, 200618 yr What's the #1s album? Just her American #1s? Sorry for being thick :kink: #1s came out when she was still at Sony. She thought it was too soon to release a proper best of; Sony wanted to make money. So this was a compromise. She was the first to release an album like this - the record labels of The Elvis, Beatles and Abba all copied her. Greatest Hits was released after she'd moved to Virgin. She owed Sony one more album on her contract - this was it. It has all her big singles on, not just the ones that made #1 in America
November 15, 200618 yr fao Kelly: Some record labels are slower than others about certifying records. Some want to make their artists sound as successful as possible. It's a good way of inflating sales. 'Triple platinum' (i.e. 900,000 copies sent to record stores) sounds better than 601,000 copies sold. Some labels are lazy. The record labels have to pay to have records certified. As Mariah's not on Sony any more, they won't care how many platinum plaques she has. Why pay for an artist you can't profit from the future albums of? Sony can already boast about all her 90s success. Any records she's sold this decade make them look bad: they don't want an artist on a rival label showing up their big female acts like Celine or JLo.
November 16, 200618 yr Author Hmmm I see what you mean Tim. Couldn't Mariah apply to have them updated herself? Or could IDJ do it? Or is this strictly a Sony thing? As if Jennifer could rival Mariah in sales. Don't mistake me I love Jennifer, but come on.

Even if yes, I think she's doing so well now she's stopped keeping track of anything less than a million  For most of this decade, Jennifer was WAY ahead of Mariah in sales post-millennium. Overall, Mariah is leagues ahead.
November 16, 200618 yr Sony won't update the certification, but they do pay Mariah money to make more off her. They re-released her GH and are still promoting it even now, same with the remixes! They want to make money off her ^_^
