10. Talk (11/27 votes, 40.74%)

Leaving on a surprisingly high margin seeing as it wasn't especially close to being in danger in previous rounds, even if this round was left open for longer, we finally lose our first single from their third album, X&Y, which did impressively well to get all three of it's singles into the top 10. Rush... is now the album with the most singles left, will one of them win? ;o Anyway, Talk was the third release from the album that aptly also peaked at number 10 in the UK chart. The main guitar line is a sample taken from a synthesizer loop from Kraftwerk's 1981 song Computer Love, an intriguing choice of sample and the rest of the track follows that, with desolate sounds of the wind and atmosphere surrounding hushed verses until the chorus comes bursting into life with that guitar hook. It received a positive response from critics for the sound and lyrics reflecting on the importance of talking to feel better about ourselves, though they no longer perform it live and the band members have said it's not a favourite of theirs. Like Violet Hill, I do appreciate this song being a bit different from their usual sound and it has an interesting structure, I just prefer everything else left. This was the surprise winner of the last (completed) Coldplay singles rate done in 2013, I guess it's fans weren't as out in full force this time.

Obviously extremely tough now, but I think I'll go with Speed of Sound. X&Y was a good album, but Fix You aside, I don't think the singles are big classics and this one in particular has always felt a bit less distinctive than the others. (I may switch to In My Place in future rounds if I need to go tactical~)

Originally had no idea that was a sample! Decent track, not vintage Coldplay though.

Paradise to go please. So overrated...

Gutted to see Talk going out this early, glad it reached the top ten at least. Still voting for Trouble but wouldn't mind if Paradise left either.
Speed of Sound please, awful awful song

Whaaat at 'Speed Of Sound' being in the lead. We cannot be having this. x

(also 'Talk' won a Coldplay singles rate on here really?? :o)

Yeah, you'll be waiting some time for that

Yes, one that you partook in! http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...amp;hl=coldplay (think it was my first ever rate I hosted on here *.*)

I really despise Fix You and it's not through overplay either, I've always hated it since it was released. I just find it to be void of any genuine emotion, it feels like a really contrived way of writing a song that will make people feel like they relate to it.

Talk won! Really surprised but pleasantly pleased that my 11 won.

Glad I've not proved myself to have changed!

Well I have absolutely no memory of this :magic: I'd suggest we should do an updated rate but may be a little overkill so soon after this survivor poll ~

I’d support that as well, think that would be really interesting!

‘Talk’ is a great track. I’m shocked it won a singles rate on here!

Voted ‘Speed Of Sound’ to go next.

I wondered why so many people who doesn't like Viva la Vida, Speed of Sound, Paradise.
