Are you accusing them of being a little parochial?

Love the headline  Puts him in his place..... :teresa:

Also, second Catholic President of the USA, so yay for that.

I believe the first was JFK.

Sky said that on 21st Jan, if Carter is still alive and Trump hasn't handed over to Pence, it'll be the first time ever that there have been 6 Presidents alive, one current and 5 former.

Another fact. Biden's only the second non-incumbent Vice-President to get the top job, after Nixon in 1968.

The first fact isn’t correct. When Trump became president, Carter, Bush Snr, Clinton, Bush Jnr and Obama were all alive. That’s 6.

Okay I'll email Sky News then and tell them as they've said it again. Someone's not done their homework.

A US reporter who says he has strong WH contacts just told Sky that there are heated discussions going on with Trump right now. On one side are people like Giuliani and some family members like Ivanka who want him to carry on with the legal action. Others like Jared, Ivanka's hubby, don't and want him to drop it and concede now and stand in 2024. He thinks he's the only Republican who could beat a Democrat then. I don't and can't see them ever giving him the Nomination again. Political parties don't like losers!

I assume by 'loser' they don't just mean he lost the election but the fact he's a loser as a personality trait.

I meant losers of elections. Nixon's the only one I believe to have lost, in 1960, to JFK, then become President in 1968. He probably wouldn't have if Johnson had stood again and/or Bobby Kennedy had lived and been the Dem. candidate.

Most of the vote margins are over 1%. Apparently you can have a recount even if the difference is less than 1% but have to pay for it. Wisconsin charges £3 million. Isn't the Trump campaign broke or nearly broke?

Republican officials from Pennsylvania, Nevada and Georgia have all come out and said nothing untoward has been going on with voting in their states. Trump should listen. Pressure's being apparently put on Melania now to try to persuade him to concede and drop the legal action. I doubt he listens to anyone though.

No Trump probably won't but Ivanka might get the nomination as she could win back female voters in the suburbs that Trump lost. Trump should focus on helping that campaign.

What makes you think black women would vote for Ivanka?

Ivanka in many ways is the worst of all worlds. She’s a woman (alienating the sizeable chunk of Republicans voters who are sexist), she’s robotic and lacks any sense of humanity (worse still than almost any politician around at the moment) and it’s a Trump so has all the same disgusting policy positions as Sr except without the “”””””””like ability””””””” to back it up.

I didn't say whether I thought Ivanka was a good candidate for president, I just said she would be more likely to get the nomination than Donald Trump in 2024. So you think Nikki Haley who Chris on here has cited as probably being the 2024 candidate would alienate a sizeable chunk of Republican voters too?

I think Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio will likely run for the nomination again and wouldn't be surprised if either of them are the next GOP candidate for 2024.

I think any female candidate is going to have a much harder time getting the Republican nomination than a white male. You only need to look how hard it has been on the Democratic side! We had loads of females in the primaries only to end up with 2 septuagenarian white men.

Ahem.

1 Bernie was CLEARLY the best candidate, so identity politics is meaningless. Identiy politics does not matter to desperate people, either.

2. They were left with Joe because Obama and the DNC made EVERY SINGLE OTHER CANDIDATE, INCLUDING THE ONES DOING BETTER THAN JOE, DROP OUT!!

I do think things are setting up for Kamala being the nomination for 2024 though.

Why not Biden? He'll be 81 by then but age isn't a barrier, I suppose there is a chance he may choose to retire by then and let Kamala take over....

I disagree. When I lived in Nebraska in 2010-11, the thing that surprised me was just how popular Sarah Palin was at the time among Republican-leaning people, female and male. There hasn't been a female Republican that put herself forward for the primary that was of the standard that could have won the party's nominations to date (Michelle Bachmann & Carly Fiorna ran objectively terrible campaigns), but in 2024 I can see Nikki Haley winning it, and there's quite a few Republican women who have entered the House of Representatives for the first time in this election cycle that are worth keeping an eye on.

I've argued before that I think it is easier for conservative female leaders to win elections than it is for female left-leaning leaders, which is why at this point I think the Republicans will win in 2024 with a woman, and also might explain why the Tories in the UK have had 2 female leaders & Prime Ministers whilst the Labour Party have failed to have just one (and the Lib Dems' first one only lasted until she lost her seat).
