December 5, 20204 yr This is the price we all pay for some hysterical racists voting for something they didn’t understand. I am and will remain furious about Brexit to the end of my days.
December 5, 20204 yr From The I Let's hope this isn't true. https://inews.co.uk/news/brexit/brexit-late...delivery-782518 The UK should brace itself for months of food shortages from 1 January as strict European rules are enforced and the prospect of long delays at the customs border scare off truck drivers from even attempting to deliver goods across the Channel, experts on both sides of the channel have claimed. According to the boss of Europe’s largest haulage trade body, the UK is looking at a “nightmare scenario” that will lead to “weeks, if not months” of food shortages after the Brexit transition period comes to an end in just four weeks. The i politics newsletter cut through the noise The UK’s leading haulage organisation has also criticised the Government’s preparations, claiming truck companies are unable to plan for the new rules “because we’ve not been told what the rules are”. Delays at customs as well as the reluctance from EU-based haulage firms to get stuck in costly queues in and around UK ports will, claim the experts, lead to a shortage of many shoppers’ favourite products including pasta, cheese, meat and wine. Prices of everyday food and drink items are also expected to increase due to the shortages and the additional costs incurred by delivery companies entering the UK. Food shortages Marco Digioia, secretary general of the European Road Haulers Association, said he was priming his membership for “huge bottle necks between the UK and EU”. “You can expect empty shelves in supermarkets from the first week of 2021,” said Mr Digioia. “It’s a complete nightmare scenario. It will last for weeks, even months.” UK imports more than half its food The UK imports around 45 per cent of its food, with 26 per cent coming from the EU and the remainder from the rest of the world. European imports come mainly from the Netherlands (14 per cent of the total value of EU goods), Germany (11 per cent), Ireland (10 per cent) and France (10 per cent). Other shopping basket regulars likely to be in short supply include green leaf salads and citrus fruits, with UK relying heavily on Spain to deliver. Tomatoes from the Netherlands and pork from Denmark is also likely to be in short supply. Chris, I hope at this point you are trolling as we have been saying this for years. I WORK in the food industry. This is not project fear, this is project reality. We have warehouses which stock food, but the stock got decimated by covid. Also because of the time of year, we also stockpile seasonal products. Food manufacturers cannot absorb the cost of the extra tariffs, these are going straight to the customer, the whole food and beverage industry has been united in that front. So you're going to see a 20-30% increase in costs probably for imported products. Not only that but just think about ingredients that we import - so you're going to see extra increases on locally manufactured products too. As like we have been saying for years too, the extra checks means it will take 3-4 extra days to get in the country so you are going to be massive queues at the channel crossings. If anyone thinks No Deal is a good thing then they can go and f*** themselves quite frankly.
December 5, 20204 yr Looks like when I come back to visit next year imma have to smuggle in basic supplies like fruit and salad for my family and friends underneath the boot floor in the car 🤣🤣🤣 When people start starving to death because they can’t afford food the government should be charged with the wilful murder of each and every life lost. They know the consequences of their actions and will push ahead regardless. That is premeditation and thus this is first degree murder

They know the consequences of their actions and will push ahead regardless. That is premeditation and thus this is first degree murder I think that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read online. So what do you expect them to do? Give in to the EU on everything? No-one does that when negotiating. If food goes up then people will just buy a bit less or cheaper items. I did Economics O level! We won't starve. If you mean their actions of leaving the EU, well the people voted for that so it had to happen. I don't want no deal and still think we'll get a last minute deal. December 5, 20204 yr Things like Smartprice and Basics ranges have already been both decimated in terms of product range and had significant price increases recently, there aren't cheaper items when you're already shopping for the cheapest items! I'd love to know which cheaper items people are supposed to be able to start buying?

I'd love to know which cheaper items people are supposed to be able to start buying? Well for example don't buy Heinz beans at 89p when Branston are 50p and as good if not better, or a supermarket brand even less, maybe 35p. and not Basics or Smartprice either.
December 5, 20204 yr Did you even read the first sentence of that post? People buying Heinz beans clearly aren't the people Silas would be referring to.

No i could never steal that title from you. I expect them to act with a shred of decency and do exactly what they promised to do during the referendum campaign and remain within the Single Market and Customs Area. Yes. Someone already struggling to buy Tesco value will be thrilled to hear your solution is for them to starve further or somehow find a level of cheap below the already cheapest food in supermarkets. You are a horror.

You are a horror. You can’t afford 35p beans? Well perhaps you should just eat less. Do you need that phone bill? What about the internet? What about that one thing that brings you a remote bit of happiness in your bleak misery — do you need that? Britain in a nutshell — but, of course, people pretend otherwise. There is going to be even more of this attitude next year when things get even harder for those with less.
December 5, 20204 yr Bet there’s a massive snow storm this January too to make things worse lol We will be fine anyway with our easy all Ireland access to the Eu market.... Edited December 5, 20204 yr by Christmasteve201

Blah blah blah, we all know that Vote Leave won but the problem is that’s the last time people had a say (except the two GEs) and not once have people been consulted on how we leave. Would people have voted leave if they knew it would end up like this? Last December, Boris gained a massive majority on the basis he had an ‘oven ready deal’ which 51 weeks later is still in doubt.

I was listening to a Five Live debate the other night and nearly every Brexiteer they had on said that if there was another referendum today they'd vote out again.
December 5, 20204 yr I was listening to a Five Live debate the other night and nearly every Brexiteer they had on said that if there was another referendum today they'd vote out again. Did they say why? They’re probably just pigheaded and stubborn and unable to admit they made a mistake.
December 5, 20204 yr I was listening to a Five Live debate the other night and nearly every Brexiteer they had on said that if there was another referendum today they'd vote out again. And? The general demographic shift has been in favour of Remain. Even without any quitters changing their mind, public opinion is now in favour of Remain. The majority are still lumbered with a form of withdrawal far more extreme than anything discussed in the referendum campaign.

Well one said he wasn't racist but just doesn't want all Europe walking in here willy-nilly and that's how I feel too. I'm not racist. How can I be with a non-white wife. It's laughable that anyone thinks I am!

It's laughable that anyone thinks I am! After decades of free movement, the vast majority of Europeans do not live in the UK. Why does anyone think that was going to change?

December 6, 20204 yr The problem with the post brexit immigration system is that it’s a system based on influence and money so they will happily let people in with money to pay the thousands of pounds a year to go to uk unis but won’t let a poor man from Eastern Europe in to try and start a better life and who knows become a great asset to the uk. Same with football - you can gaurantee the money making premier league brand won’t be effected by players from different countries coming and going from all round the world by any settlement. I read that they are trying to clarify rules so Irish players aren’t affected from coming to the uk at the usual early ages when clubs spot talent and bring them into the academies. Again all examples of how the new immigration system will only effect the least powerful voices.
December 6, 20204 yr Sky News saying that No Deal is looking more likely today then yesterday and that Boris has the full backing of the UK Cabinet for a no deal.
