Posted February 28, 20205 yr praised LA singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers is back with he sophomore album pencilled for summer 2020 her debut album Stranger in the Alps put her in the indie map with classic singles like Smoke Signals, Motion Sickness or Killer. First taste of the new album is a track song called Garden Song, released yesterday (Feb 26) 1u8rIx65QgA beautiful lyrics and song!!! Pitchfork review: There is a mechanism inside Phoebe Bridgers that allows her to gaze unflinchingly into the pitch black of her psyche and emerge with a beautiful, bittersweet song every time. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter—who, in addition to her solo career, is one-third of boygenius and one half of Better Oblivion Community Center—will sometimes deliver her meditations on darkness and intimacy while wearing a skeleton bodysuit. Is it a gesture that could be read as a metaphor for how musicians are expected to reveal their innermost parts? Or just a goofy attempt to not take her very serious songs so seriously? It’s a little of both. “Garden Song” is an understated rumination on lost time and complicated nostalgia that features a video that opens with her ripping a bong in a bedroom. “When I grow up, I’m gonna look up from my phone and see my life,” she sings, noting that she is none the wiser in this vision of the future. Unlike some of her biggest hits, “Garden Song” has a warped finger-picked melody that never grows into a moment of catharsis; its most significant flourish is a delicate swelling of strings that barely rise above a flutter. The slight arrangement allows for Bridgers’ humor and storytelling idiosyncrasies to shine. “The doctor put her hands over my liver/She told me my resentment’s getting smaller,” Bridgers says near the song’s end. While her delivery of imposing details like a skinhead neighbor or a charred door frame might seem casual, her songwriting is meticulously constructed from the finest of breadcrumbs. The haunted memories that reside within “Garden Song,” Bridgers suggests, are all part of a bigger picture.

June 18, 20204 yr Author The album already arrived on the post, nice that her label are sending it earlier been listening 24/7 and wow, so impressed incredible lyrics and melodies, so mature, so cohesive, melancholic but not sappy, shows great evolution as songwriter Album of the Year already for me :) early favourites are Moon Song and the closing track I Know the End... mostly cos of the lyrics I already had heard both on her live streams but they're just perfect on record Moon Song 3Gr2JYiS8M8 the song has incredible lyrics one after the other... "You couldn’t have stuck your tongue down the throat of somebody who loves you more"... "So I will wait for the next time you want me, Like a dog leaves a bird at your door"..."We hate Tears In Heaven but it’s sad that his baby died, And we fought about John Lennon, Until I cried"..."You are sick and you’re married, And you might be dying, But you’re holding me like water in your hands, When you saw the dead little bird You started crying, But you know the killer doesn’t understand"... beautiful from start to end... I Know the End TN2T1ttq1S4 Beautiful lyrics again... love this verse that goes : "Out in the park we watch the sunset Talking on a rusty swing set After a while you went quiet and I got mean Always pushing you away from me But your comeback was gravity And when I call you come home A bird in your teeth" and the final outro, when she sings: "We're not alone I'll find a new place to be from... No, I'm not afraid to disappear The billboard said the end is near I turned around, there was nothing there Yeah, I guess the end is here"
June 18, 20204 yr This is delightful. Graceland Too with Julien and Phoebe is perfection. I Know The End has such Sufjan vibes from the Illinoise era.
June 19, 20204 yr Author I seriously might have listen 50 times in 3 days :o and I already have learnt how to play I Know the End on guitar :o
June 22, 20204 yr Author great review on Pitchfork https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/phoebe...dgers-punisher/
June 22, 20204 yr I love this album, it’s gorgeous and been so relaxing to listen to over the weekend. I never bothered with her previous output, is it as good?
June 22, 20204 yr Author yes, she has another album, her debut Stranger in the Alps, incredible too her debut has Smoke Signals, with is a beautiful gorgeous song, was the first Phoebe song I heard, basically it's been used in all tv series that ever existed, the lyrics are also very good, very Phoebe then there's also Motion Sickness, more upbeat but with great lyrics too, love the refrain of "I have emotional motion sickness".... the song got quite popular cost it's about Ryan Adams Smoke Signals vAKg267JgBE Motion Sickness 9sfYpolGCu8
June 22, 20204 yr Motion Sickness was the first I'd heard of her last year when that story came out, it's great but didn't delve any further - I'd given boygenius ago but thought was absolutely not for me. The new ones have been good, love Kyoto and ICU too. Album sounded good yesterday on first listen.
June 22, 20204 yr Author My problem is that I'm very very very biased and I hate Conor with all my guts so for me it's a big no, I'm pretending the collaboration never happened :D but if you like him/Bright Eyes, sure you'd enjoy the collaboration... On the other hand, I'm a huge Julien Baker fan, so Boygenius is a big yes... Actually the best song on the Boygenius EP is Me & My Dog, which was a Phoebe song that was almost finished and she brought to the project 6T5zc36sAIE
June 22, 20204 yr Author wow #3 in the Mids!!!!!! totally unexpected and with 3,5k sales already nice to have a singer/songwrtier top 3 with Dylan, Neil Young and Phoebe
