Posted November 18, 200618 yr so whats the fuss?... why is he regarded soooo highly?.. off the back of 1 album (pet sounds)... but was it that good?... im not so sure the 'surf' sound was pretty lame tbh, and when bri veered away from that into something deeper was it really that good?.. ok, 'god only knows'... seems pretty repetitive to me!, and 'good vibrations' started off brilliantly, but if ever a song lost its way then its this one! its like he didnt know how to complete this excellent vision. im not sure he should be regarded in such high esteem, there are/were/have been far better songwriters... he was good... but not that good.
November 19, 200618 yr Yes, I love God Only Knows and Good Vibrations is a good record but the rest of thier stuff is pretty average for me. Some of their songs have stood the test of time tho... like I Get Around and such like, but alot of their stuff sounds the same.
November 20, 200618 yr Never was a fan of The Beach Boys... But I really did enjoy when Jesus and Mary Chain ripped "Surfing USA" a new arsehole.... :lol: :lol: Now THAT is how you do a cover version.... :P
November 20, 200618 yr Yes, I love God Only Knows and Good Vibrations is a good record but the rest of thier stuff is pretty average for me. God only knows is an excellent tune and if the rest is up to this std in this period he should be regarded as a genius. the xmas album from last year was supposed to be c**p but the nonsuch albums are supposed to be great according to magazine like uncut and mojo. obv not heard everything so suppose i've got a few years catch up. not too sure of some of the surf music i've heard of theirs but i suppose i'd better investigate jan and dean + dick dale to put into perspective.
