Posted November 19, 200618 yr Amy and other artists have recently featured in a tribute video to the late and legendary Johnny Cash. Two days ago, Amy Lee was dying in a cemetery. “It was a shoot for the new Johnny Cash video,” she explains. “The concept is all these celebrities – Justin Timberlake, Tony Hawk, P. Diddy- dressed in black like Johnny Cash. You know, expressing the pain of the world. They said I could do whatever I wanted, so I said, ‘Why don’t I go to a cemetery and lay some flowers on a grave?’ We shot it at Trinity Church”, she says, referring to the soaring neo-Gothic cathedral three blocks from Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. “It was really creepy,” which, coming from her, is high praise. Amy can be seen at around 1 minute 18. [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5miI5Jq8wQ4.swf Edited November 19, 200618 yr by NatalieMT

Most of us have tried to get away from that particular cliche....

November 19, 200618 yr I think it's just because graveyards symbolise death and death has been one of the biggest influences in Amy's life since she was 6 years old and witnessed the passing of her younger sister. It was one in an interview that she has a fascination with death and the afterlife because it's something she doesn't understand and maybe never will... Graveyards are a bit of an obvious symbol of death though, you have to admit, many things can symbolise death or the afterlife, it doesn't have to be quite so bludgeoned home in incredibly obvious ways... Have you ever seen Anton Corbijn's video for Joy Division's "Atmosphere"...? Not a single gravestone in sight, but the imagery quite clearly symbolises death/afterlife.... I kinda thought she'd progressed beyond the second-hand Trent Reznor/Marilyn Manson-isms, I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. Sorry, but I always get a bit suspicioius when these American 'gothic' musicians start going on with the death obsessions (unless it's done with cynicism or irony like Type O Negative, then it can be pretty amusing..).
