April 13, 20205 yr I can't imagine feeling that Some Girls is the worst song on Come and Get It! Different strokes for different folks, I guess! I consider it to be the best track. Aside from that, I appreciate your stanning of the album, Jonjo! Nothing Good About This Goodbye would have made an incredible single - a pity that didn't come to pass. It's absolutely stunning. I hope more BuzzJack members give 'Come and Get It' a go while we're collectively in this Rachel/S Club mood. It is quite genuinely a brilliant pop album from start to finish, a gem waiting to be discovered! I would be surprised if it didn't leave a strong impression on anyone who decides to listen. I'm a bit sad that I kind of forgot about it for many years, but I'm making up for lost time this year... I've heard it 4 times in the past month. *_* If there was any justice that era would have been for Rachel what 'Future Nostalgia' has been for Dua, in terms of success, but alas...! At least it was favourably received by critics.
April 13, 20205 yr By the way, when the album leaked (from memory it happened in Summer 2005, quite a bit in advance of its commercial release), it had a different track list order! This was the order: (I've put the commercial track list number in brackets) 1. So Good [1] 2. Crazy Boys [3] 3. Je M'Appelle [10] 4. I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) [2] 5. Nothing Good About This Goodbye [8] 6. Some Girls [9] 7. Every Little Thing [12] 8. Dumb Dumb [13] 9. Funny How [11] 10. Negotiate with Love [5] 11. Secret Garden [7] 12. All About Me [6] 13. I Will Be There [4] Perhaps some of you who are already familiar with the album would be interested to listen to it in that order, and see what you make of it in comparison to the commercial track list order? Looking at the track list has made me realise there's a discrepancy when it comes to the title It's All About Me / All About Me... the CDs state 'All About Me' but digital/streaming says 'It's All About Me'
April 13, 20205 yr I revisited this yesterday and today. It’s good, like really good. Surprised how much I enjoyed it.
April 13, 20205 yr I'm interested to listen to the alternate order!! Particularly interesting is the complete change of album closer. I think I Will Be There would actually have made a far better closer than Dumb Dumb (which I prefer as a song!) The more I listen, the more sad I feel about how this album performed commercially. It deserved so much more, but I'm so pleased it at least has the cult following it's achieved.
April 13, 20205 yr He likes to put his own records on (uh huh huh) He likes to tell me the things he's done (uh huh huh) Such a strange way of having fun Oh no no, oh no no And away we go Some girls always get what they wanna wanna All I seem to get is the other other This won't last for long, not forever And the champagne makes it taste so much better better Some girls always get what they wanna wanna All I seem to get is the other other Dreams of number one last forever It's the only way to make you feel better HEY! STOP!
November 15, 20222 yr My review of Rachel Stevens: Come and Get It 01. So Good - 10/10 The album opens with this cracking with this epic electro pop number with Rachel’s defiant vocals flows along the relentless pounding beats and pulsating synths, thanks to the slick nuanced production. Everything about this gem is superbly inventive. 02. I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) - 10/10 Relentless thrill ride with chugging electric guitar riffs tearing through the melody that gives this song a sort of glam rock feel to it. The track has a fun rebellious quality to it and Rachel’s vocals sound great over the thumping beats. Excellent track nothing more, nothing less. 03. Crazy Boys - 10/10 This continues the glam rock electro sound only this time with added timpani drums that gives the production a stunning atmospheric feel, Rachel’s breathy vocals makes light work over the catchy lyrics and cool throbbing beats. 04. I Will Be There - 9/10 Slowing things with this electro ballad which gives Rachel plenty of space to show off her vocals over the dream-like soundscapes with pulsating synth underlines it as it weaves the verses to the chorus effortlessly. 05. Negotiate with Love - 8/10 A bold choice for a lead single and maybe way too left-field to fully work. But anyway this track is still pretty great with its intense bassline, frantic synth stabs and surf guitars helps the somewhat mellow track flow pretty well thanks to its rich production and plus its chorus is quite catchy. Maybe this could have fared better as a later single instead of leading this campaign. 06. It’s All About Me - 7/10 The sample of The Cure’s ‘Lullaby’ works well over the catchy pop beats and while the track is beautifully formed, it’s definitely album filler material. 07. Secret Garden - 8/10 Nice and rather soulful piece of electro pop with beautiful wandering piano strings and throbbing basslines. A gorgeous number. 08. Nothing Good About This Goodbye - 10/10 Excellent mid-tempo number with pulsating basslines, bouncy synths, addictive hooks and catchy chorus. This really should have been a single as everything about this is just simply stunning thanks to the stellar production. 09. Some Girls - 10/10 An odd inclusion on here considering it was already included on her debut, however it’s a welcome addition as it’s a brilliant track with its off the wall production, grinding basslines, thumping electro beats and frantic synth stabs. Bouncy and catchy as hell 10. Je M’Appelle - 8/10 Starting off slow before the beats picks up slightly with this electro ballad with Rachel’s sultry vocal harmonies adding a nice touch to the track. This has more of an R&B feel to it, but still fits well on here. 11. Funny How - 10/10 Fantastic catchy bop with bouncy pop beats that has a very disco feel to it. The song is catchy as hell and vocally and musically it flows together beautifully and offers something a little different to the electro pop numbers. 12. Every Little Thing - 8/10 Another bouncy pop track that goes well with the previous track, bouncy, catchy and full of fun. 13. Dumb, Dumb - 9/10 An excellent and interesting closer to the album with this fantastic bouncy synth number with Rachel’s confident yet strong vocals. Avg.9.0 Edited November 15, 20222 yr by Nina West
February 14, 20232 yr One of the best albums of all time. I said what I said. You're not wrong, it's excellent. If Kylie had released this it would have been huge for her I am certain of it.

June 19, 20232 yr 'Every Little Thing' is top 5 on this album for me. I love it so much  Interesting that it was intended for Gareth Gates originally and it's odd coz I wouldn't have thought it sounded good for him, but hearing their version for him makes sense and is similar to his cover of 'Spirit In the Sky'. But I'm so glad it went to Rachel  Surely this is due a special vinyl pressing though?
