What are your MSN Messenger memories aka the OG group chat!

Did you sign out and back in to get noticed? Did you have a list of your best friends in ORDER? Were you an annoying nudger? Was you name like this ,.-~*'¨¯¨'*·~-.¸-(_ (KlAuS) _)-,.-~*'¨¯¨'*·~-.¸

MSN ❤️

I was definitely an exploiter of the nudge function - it also worked as a way of slapping someone down who you were in an argument with in the group chat

This was the way to communicate! It was always hard tho because before I went to uni, we didn’t have wireless so my entire family were fighting to be on the one computer we could use for internet.

When I was at uni I used to talk to my mum on MSN as well.

Gosh MSN, definitely up there with one of the things that defines 2000's

I can't even remember how and when we actually stopped using it :(

Never used this - the first social network I had was Facebook so I don't have any nostalgia for the old ones like this and Myspace etc.

I remember Facebook messenger popping up as a thing for the first time in about 2008 when I was at uni. I was all ‘this will never catch on, we’ve already got MSN!’

And yet here we are.

Didn't Messenger start off as an inbox thing? '... is feeling really angry and annoyed right now! I am fuming!!!!' 'What's wrong xxx' 'Inbox me xxx'

I definitely remember using MSN! I think I was about 10 when I started using it and continued for a couple of years. I would always have a list of my friends, song lyrics and promo for my Piczo website in the description thing

The big gossip of year 6 was someone having George Sampson on MSN :deadbanana:

omg who remembers the winks

What even were they?

I can't! :cheeseblock:

I loved it! It's how we used to communicate in school. We'd end up just chatting shet. I remember us discussing Nelly Furtado's Man Eater and What You Waiting For over it!

Those nudges though :frankie:

We used to have everyone we knew on it, though, and even people we didn't like.

omg the winks. I am HOWLING at the thought of that middlefinger again lmaooo.

Remember when you'd go offline and online just to get peoples attention

omg i was the worst for nudging people and spamming them with those winks. i feel like it explains a lot of who i am today

My internet disconnected me all the time and some douche who hated me attacked me for like 30 mins over it, saying I was attention-seeking over my birthday!! I COULDN'T HELP IT!! I just went offline after that.

I LOVED MSN. I remember staying up until the early hours (4-5am) just to talk to random people (and sometimes people that I saw everyday for some reason.) Putting a cheesy lyric in your name was a must, and you had to set your status correctly. If you were away and did not set yourself as "Away", then why were you even in logged in?!

and it had the different reasons why you were away ‘out for lunch’, ‘in a call’

brb as well!!

17:34: brb

17:35: ok

17:36: back

Brb was everything. Not having to stress about being away from the monitor for a while 14 seconds.

such a nostalgia

I had 2 accounts...one for my friends and family with my real name and one for gay cruising...you know I was born and raised in Kosovo gay is not ok type of country etc. etc.

Ah those were the days, the first real social network experience I had!

I think there would still be a market for it in some cases but I guess WhatsApp (owned by Facebook) has been dominant for well over a decade now since everyone has smart phones.
