November 20, 200618 yr Chartifacts from aria.com.au U2 & Green Day last a single week at the top of the charts, and looking at last weeks figures, they were only just holding on to that No.1 spot. As the single "The Saints are Coming" was No.4 in Sales, and No.2 in Downloads, the less consistent other singles up the top of the charts were unable to hit the top. But this week a song that has been in waiting for four weeks at No.2, and is a former No.1 Download single hits the top of the Australian Charts. "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" by the Scissor Sisters now matches it's parent album "Ta-Dah!" as a No.1 chart topper in Australia. It's taken 10 weeks to reach the top of the charts, the longest climb this year, and it now matches the No.1 peak in the UK, where it stayed at the top for four consecutive weeks from late September. It becomes the 915th No.1 in Australia, and is the first "Dancing" record to reach No.1 since 1985. The last was "Dancing in the Street" by David Bowie and Mick Jagger back in October 1985, and becomes the third such "Dancing" track, the first was "Dancing Queen" by Abba back in September 1976. There's also another trend in the title, the "I Don't" slogan, of which this track becomes the sixth such chart topper. The others were... Oct-42 - I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire - The Ink Spots Feb-43 - I Don't Want to Walk Without You - Bing Crosby Nov-79 - I Don't Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats Sep-98 - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith Apr-04 - F**k it (I Don't Want You Back) - Aemon The Scissor Sisters are the 368th American Performers to hit No.1 in Australia, with the 603rd American Performed No.1 song. They are also the third set of 'Sisters' to hit the top of the charts, the other being The Andrews Sisters and The Fontane Sisters, although they were actual sisters, as opposed to the Scissor's who are just sisters-by-namesake. They are also the first US group to reach No.1 since Green Day did so last week, but the last US Group to reach No.1 on their own was exactly one year ago this week, when The Black Eyed Peas debuted at No.1 with "My Humps", which stayed at the top for two weeks. The highest of four new entries this week is the current US No.1 single "My Love" by Justin Timberlake feat T.I. By debuting at No.4, and having his previous No.1 single at No.7 this week, Justin becomes the first artist since The Black Eyed Peas in December 2003 to have two simultaneous Top 10 singles. The Peas did it with "Shut Up" and "Where is the Love", which also featured JT. Justin's album "Futuresex/Lovesounds" is at No.20 this week. Two girls move up from their debuts last week. Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" is at No.4 in the US this week, and moves from 8 to 5 here in Australia. Whilst Christina Aguilera's "Hurt", moves up two places to No.9 this week to give her her 12th Top 10 single in Australia, out of 15 chart entries. The second highest debut comes in at No.12, "Happening All Over Again" by The Young Divas. As with their previous No.2 single (for 3 weeks) "This Time I Know it's for Real", this too is a cover of a late 80's/early 90's diva track. "Happening..." was originally performed by Lonnie Gordon, and it made No.33 in September 1990, so this new version instantly becomes bigger than it's original. The Young Diva's debut album is out this week, and features plenty more diva'esque tracks from the 80's and early 90's. 53 weeks ago Madonna was debuting at No.1 with the track "Hung Up" from her "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album. Well this week she enters the charts at No.29 with the fourth single from that album "Jump". The track hit the Top 10 in the UK last week, but due to poor downloads, only manages a Top 30 entry. The previous three singles have all done better, with the aforementioned "Hung Up" reaching No.1, "Sorry" hit No.4 in March 2006 and "Get Together" which debuted and peaked at No.13 in July 2006. The fourth new entry comes from the group AFI, who were touring the country recently. "Love Like Winter" debuts at No.49, and is the follow-up to their No.14 single "Miss Murder" from August, and is the second single from the former No.3 album "December Underground". For the fourth non-consecutive week, Human Nature's "Dancing in the Street; The Songs of Motown 2" is at No.1 on the Australian charts. It now becomes their longest running No.1 album, and their first Motown album climbs back up the charts from 45 to 27 this week. Human Nature have now accumulated 8 weeks at No.1 with their three chart-topping albums, and it now puts them in 8th Place for the listing of Aussie Acts with the Most Accumulated Weeks at the top of the charts. The list is as follows... 1 - 27wks - Skyhooks 2 - 17wks - The Seekers 3 - 13wks - Midnight Oil 4 - 11wks - Australian Crawl 11wks - Men at Work 11wks - Icehouse 7 - 9wks - INXS 8 - 8wks - Human Nature 9 - 7wks - Daddy Cool 7wks - Moving Pictures 7wks - Powderfinger 7wks - Killing Heidi And as I'm on the Aussie tilt, this weeks Top 10 is 70% Aussie acts, with David Campbell's "Swing Sessions" jumping from 21 to 7 this week, and Guy Sebastian's "Closer to the Sun" climbing back up 2 places as the next single off the album "Elevator Love" (Dec 2nd) is released to radio. There are currently 8 'Best of' compilations on the charts, but as per this time of year, there will be a whole heap more coming in the next couple of weeks, as U218 is out on Monday, and with them touring Australia at the moment, it's a foregone conclusion that it will hit No.1 next week. Jamiroquai's "High Times" is up to No.11 this week, and Billy Joel's "Piano Man" up to No.14. Debuting at No.25 (ironically) is George Michael's new Best of called Twenty-Five. It contains tracks from the start of his career with Wham! in 1983 all the way through to his recent Top 40 single "An Easier Affair", a span of (funnily enough) 25 years. His original Best of "Ladies and Gentlemen" hit No.2 this week (Nov-23) back in 1998. The highest new entry this week comes in at No.22, and this the debut album for +44 (Plus 44), "When Your Heart Stops Beating". The group is made up of 2/3rds of Blink 182, as singer/bassist Mark Hoppus and Drummer Travis Barker are the two former Blinkers now fully at home in this new group. The name of the band is taken from the International Dial Code for the United Kingdom (+44). Jayceon Taylor aka The Game debuts at No.28 with "Doctor's Advocate" (referencing Dr. Dre's input maybe), the follow-up to his 2005 debut "The Documentary" which hit No.45 in January of that year. The lead single off the album "Let's Ride" was recently No.1 in the US, and will by released here on December 4th.
