NOW That's What DAN Calls The 00s

 

I'm going to be revisiting my fave chart hits of the decade (and a handful of misses) through re-writing the NOW albums to suit my faves from each period. Each edition will take into account four months like a regular NOW compilation would. These songs aren't necessarily in order of preference but my faves will often be put around the top of the disc. Some volumes will hold more songs than an actual CD could fit but I'll try not to go too overboard. The rule is if it gets skipped whilst doing my listen through, then it doesn't make the cut! For songs that had multiple releases I'll consider the first time they made the top 40 to be where they fit.

COMPACT DISC 1

 

So we start with the first disc of the decade, home to many many trance classics some you're probably familiar with like the #1s from Fragma and Chicane but a fair few underrated classics too from Rank 1, Cygnus X and CRW amongst others. It was also when Armin van Buuren had his only top 40 of the decade, perhaps a bit of a surprise considering he turned out to be the biggest name in trance for him to not get a few more hits when the genre was at its peak. It was also a great time for garage with two absolute classics produced in Flowers and Movin Too Fast, and a few others that feature lower down the track list.

Now onto CD2 which is mostly going to be reserved for songs outside the dance music spectrum starting with one of my fave pop hits of the year in 'Pure Shores' as well as another big classic 'Dancing In The Moonlight'. A good few RnB songs also make it on with a sprinkling of cheese from Scooch & Steps. Plus two great rap hits from Pharahe Monch and Dr. Dre. As for indie there's not a lot of it here that I know/like aside from 'Otherside' which I'm surprised only managed a #33 peak, but its 400m ww Spotify streams make up for that I suppose.

Another great period for dance tunes including the all-time classics Sandstorm and Groovejet. Plus the underrated follow-up to Chicane's #1 hit which peaked far too low, and a former BJSC entry of mine in 'Deadline'. This was also originally going to have Madison Avenue and Sonique before I just remembered they both charted before 2000. Outside of dance my big faves include the chart toppers from Eminem and Kylie (whose song fits in really well coming straight after Groovejet).

2000 has never been a year I've rated musically but seeing some of the songs here has made me realise just how many good ones came out that year. :o Lady :heart: Groovejet :heart: Can't Fight The Moonlight :heart: Stan :heart: just to name a few. :o

I did something like this too. Lots of overlap with yours as expected. I've done this for all 105 Nows and done additional ones for periods where there wasn't a Now like summer '91 etc. First-class dance and R&B in this era. Here are the 2000 ones, though a few late 99 ones are on AN45 just like in real life.
