Posted April 20, 20205 yr Loose is the third studio album by Canadian singer and songwriter Nelly Furtado, released on 6 June 2006 by Interscope Records and the Mosley Music Group. Following the release of Furtado's second album, Folklore (2003) through DreamWorks Records, it was announced that Universal Music Group would acquire DreamWorks Records, the latter was folded into the Interscope Geffen A&M umbrella where Furtado would release any new music. Recording sessions for the album took place from 2005 to 2006. Timbaland and his protégé Danja produced the bulk of the album, which incorporates influences of dance, R&B and hip hop. The album explores the theme of female sexuality and has been described as introspective or even sad in parts. The record was seen generally as critically and commercially successful. It reached high positions on charts across the world, and according to an August 2009 press release, it had sold more than 10 million copies worldwide,[1][2] making it the fifth best selling female album of the 00's and the twenty-second best-selling album of the 2000s. The album received criticism because of the sexual image Furtado adopted for the recording, as some critics felt it was a ploy to sell more records. The album was heavily promoted, released in several editions and supported by the Get Loose Tour, which is the subject of the concert DVD Loose: The Concert. "Loose" debuted at number one, making it Furtado's first album to top the chart along with eight singles were released from the album, including the US number-one singles "Promiscuous" and "Say It Right", which received Grammy Award nominations for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, respectively.[3][4] Other successful singles include the UK number-one single "Maneater" and the European number one single "All Good Things (Come to an End)". April 20, 20205 yr Author Gosh this album still slays, pop perfection. I would rank singles in this order: 01. Say It Right 02. All The Good Thing (Come To An End) 03. Maneater 04. Promiscuous Reminder though that they're all 10/10 except Say It Right which is 11/10  And the fave album single I would say it is Te Busque which I believe it was a single release in selected markets!!!
April 20, 20205 yr I think you're forgetting this bop. Asy6Cpbtwfs Great review - and faultless album choice. Her mainstream breakthrough with this album was such an unexpected occurrence imo. She really transitioned into a pop star even if just for one era. I love all of the singles besides Promiscuous which I've never been a fan of. I can't believe that is her biggest hit in the US and none of the other singles. :o 1. Say It Right 2. All Good Things 3. Maneater 4. Promiscuous
April 20, 20205 yr Author This thread was actually inspired by Dua Lipa recent interview Dua Lipa recently did an interview for Attitude and it's amazing. https://attitude.co.uk/article/exclusive-du...-artists/23184/ Some quotes from it here: No pressure with this next question… favourite song of ALL TIME? Oh. My. God. That’s so hard. We didn’t say this was going to be easy, Dua. F***, I really can’t choose one… 'Clint Eastwood' by Gorillaz is one of my favourite songs, but then also 'All Good Things (Come to an End)' by Nelly Furtado, and 'Promiscuous Girl' is a f***ing bop. There is no way [i can pick one]. Let’s narrow it down a bit. Favourite song to cry along to? 'All Good Things' by Nelly! It’s such a real and beautiful song - why do all good things come to an end? You could be the happiest person in the world, then that song comes on and you’re like [pretends to get emosh]: 'But what if?!' :snif:
April 20, 20205 yr I’ve actually never heard Loose in full! Perhaps some homework whilst I’m in lockdown?
April 21, 20205 yr Bar the singles, which to be fair is half of the album, the rest aren't that special imo.
April 21, 20205 yr I did enjoy many of the singles from the album especially All Good Things, it was disappointing her follow ups under performed as she hit it so big with this album.
April 21, 20205 yr Maneater Promiscuous All Good Things (Come to an End) Say It Right It's hard to compete with a singles run as strong as that — what an era
April 21, 20205 yr These 2 were also singles, see below. I know 'TB' was already mentioned, but the fabulous 'IGH' seems totally forgotten, I know it doesn't really fit on the album, but its still a stunning little ballad & a firm highlight on the album. Some facts about these 2. Te Busque which features Colombian singer Juanes was released as the lead single in Spain because of the limited success hip-hop/R&B-influenced songs in the style of "Promiscuous" and "Maneater" achieved in that country. Then was given a release in certain countries in June 2007 following 'Give It To Me' her collaboration with Timbaland & Justin Timberlake. The song wasn't officially released in the USA, but did receive airplay on the Latin stations. A music video was due to be shot in December 2006 but was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. In God's Hands - This was first released in the UK as the album's fifth single (before 'Do It') in July 2007, then was later released in various formats across Europe in November/December of that year. Then in April 2008 she recorded a new version of the song as a duet with Australian country singer Keith Urban. "In God's Hands" VR31Iv7J61o "Te Busque" X_pTTaNQjOE
November 12, 20222 yr Just give this another listen recently and its a really good album with some incredible moments, here's my review for it: 01. Afraid - 8/10 The opening track and sets the tone with light vocals with cool house beats mixed in. The song is chorus heavy and it’s a decent start to the album. 02. Maneater - 10/10 The lead single (for the European market) and great way for Nelly Furtado to showcase her new sound with its cool dance beats combined with 80’s styled electro synths combined with her confident and sexy vocals, this is an amazing track through and through. 03. Promiscuous - 10/10 The perfect follow up that goes hand in hand with the previous track with its sensual sounds, funky hip-hop beats & heavy drum bass. A playful infusion of different genres thanks to the stellar Timbaland production and of course there’s those catchy hooks that brings everything together perfectly. 04. Glow - 6/10 The first filler moment on here with muddy vocals that gets lost in the odd melodies. This feels very overproduced. 05. Showtime - 5/10 Another forgettable moment on here, this feels very choppy in places, the verses are quite smooth though, but lacks a strong hook. 06. Ho Hay Igual - 7/10 The first Spanish track on here and its pretty good as it infuses a modern sound with 90’s dance beats & it’s quite catchy. 07. Te Busque - 8 The second Spanish track and the albums first ballad. This has a nice flow to it as the beat picks up to a faster tempo. A great number with strong vocals from both artists. 08. Say It Right - 10/10 The best track on here for sure with this beautifully crafted pop track with atmospheric production, sparse beats that gives this a haunting yet otherworldly feel. The way Nelly’s hypnotic vocals blend with the chorus and trance-like melodies is sublime. So glad this became a single as it would have been CRIMINAL not to release this masterpiece. 09. Do It - 8/10 Cute and catchy pop track with snappy beats, cascading multi-layered vocals and fun 80’s styled synths. Sure this way be a little lightweight compared to the other singles, but this retro styled bop is a hell of a good time. 10. In God’s Hands - 9/10 The second ballad on the album and its simply stunning with mellow production, with the light guitars and violins woven into the soft melodies and Nelly’s vocals are very pretty yet emotive that gives this song a wonderful warm feeling to it. One of my firm faves on here. 11. Wait for You - 6/10 A nice little pop number with some fun bhangra inspired beats, but overall the song feels very forgettable especially coming after 3 bops in a row. 12. All Good Things (Come to An End) - 10/10 Not quite the closing number on the album, but this would have been more than a fitting end on here with this gorgeous ballad that became the album’s 3rd single (in the UK) with its atmospheric folk-like production that presents an ethereal quality to it. The vague yet bittersweet lyrics lends a hint of intelligence to this rather sombre number and shows how diverse this album really is. Avg.8.083 Edited November 12, 20222 yr by Nina West
November 12, 20222 yr I really enjoyed this album back in the day. Undercover which I think was a b-side was also very good.
