This. And finally we got to hear her voice shining on legendary tracks like Lift Me Up: soaring vocals, belting notes, adlibs (sorry Sporty), and a touching middle 8 sung beautifully. Liiiiftt me uyyuyuyhhghhhhhhhp

I love this  Lift Me Up is everything, in fact all the singles from the album are

Played this album yesterday but turned it off after Sometime

SANG IT KWEEN!!!! :cheer:

God, how dare BLAND C hog the adlibs when Gerita the Chicita was right there waiting for her moment? Bitch.

I’m screaming 😂

Gerita showed them how is done with Look At Me middle8 crescendo. That sustained high note didn’t need any backup singers. What a talent. Gloooooooooooryyyyy.

Yes, there are people on these forums who like DISGUSGINCE's adlibs over Gerita's beautiful and melodic ones

Luckily, those have been chased out of this thread and now the TRUE Gerita Vocal Appreciation Society can begin!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Deal. I need a thread of Gerita best vocals. Only (real) live versions.

Unlike her FLOP band members Gerita sounds like on record when she's live, how embarrassing for Emma and the Mels!!! They've been ousted by a true talent :yahoo:  :arrr:  :arrr:

Wow, she really invented dancing there. Didn’t she?

By the way, nothing can top this GEM

23 years have passed since the release of 'Mi Chico Latino':

It became Geri's first UK #1 single!

I was on holiday in Guernsey with my parents when it was released. I remember buying them from Woolworths, and when I checked my copies afterwards I thought that they'd put the CD1 disc into both singles [both discs were blue and had the B Sides track list printed on it]. But it was a misprint, the disc inside CD2 actually did have the remixes as the audio. The store didn't have any correct pink CD2s. I'm glad I kept it rather than returning it, and many years later I got the pink disc from eBay! I played those singles so many times during that holiday.

A solid debut album, one which I have great affection for. It's a shame Geri appears to have no interest whatsoever in doing anniversary re-releases / pressing on vinyl.

What an era. So many memories

I dont think any two albums give me as much pure nostalgia as Schizophonic and Spiceworld.

Look at Me was released as a single 25 years ago on this date, 10th May!

I have to ask as I wasn't a close chart follower at the time, was the sentiment when 'Look At Me' missed #1 that it would be downhill from there and did 'Mi Chico Latino' storming its way to #1 come as a surprise?

I was only 11 at the time, but while Geri was promoting Mi Chico Latino I felt like it had a great chance of going to #1, so I don't recall being surprised when it happened. This was without me knowing about midweeks at that point. Whether it seemed surprising to the industry/adult chart fans, I have to wonder!

But prior to Mi Chico Latino being confirmed as a single... well, I can't remember what I would have thought. Looking back on it now though, the trajectory of this era does seem surprising - to follow up a #2 single and #4 album with three #1 singles!

Look at Me actually had the highest weekly sales of all four singles:

142,153 - Look at Me

139,500 - Lift Me Up

133,000 - Mi Chico Latino

106,000 - Bag It Up

It was so unfortunate that Boyzone beat her, and by such a small margin too (142,901 - 748 copies ahead).

I'll always be bewildered that her label decided that putting out two CDs with identical track lists was a good decision, and pricing them at £3.99 first week. Better track lists and a cheaper price and she could have breezed it to #1. Surely the label must have known they had a fight on their hands going up against Boyzone too. Argh!

I'll never understand the Look at me release strategy, she really shot herself in the foot. I think she and the label just got too cocky really.

I never understood the issue with her going #2 with her first release. It was incredibly successful allover Europe, specially the UK and gave her an incredible platform... It also sold really well... So what if she wasn't #1?...

I know it was probably Geri fuelling that argument herself, but she only shot herself in the foot by being vocally annoyed/dissapointed at it. IMAGINE thinking a #2 with such massive sales was something to be annoyed about? Specially with your first single...

Anyway, she got a good run of 4 back to back #1s straight after!
