24. Tyler, The Creator - EARFQUAKE

2019, #17

Correct (9): DalekTurret32, dan.G*, girlsaloudjunkie, Rush, Jade, coi, Breraldine, Dan17F1, mdh

Other Answers:

Nelly & Kelly - Dilemma (vibe)

Kendrick Lamar (Dobbo)

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank)

Alicia Keys - You Don’t Know My Name (jimwatts)

OutKast (Beverly)

Nelly (Jordan Lee)

Tinie Tempah (West)

The most recent song in the quiz comes from the BRITS' 'best international male' Tyler, The Creator. This comes from his masterpiece of an album 'IGOR' which is about a love-triangle that formed between Tyler, his romantic interest and their girlfriend. This and 'I THINK' are literally neck-to-neck as my favourites from the album. This song was originally written by Tyler for Justin Bieber, who turned it down. He then offered it to Rihanna, who did the same. Thankfully he then decided to keep it for himself because his slightly off vocals paired with Charlie Wilson's smooth background works so well. There's also an uncredited verse by Playboi Carti who appears to be in a competition with Young Thug for the less-distinguishable verse of all-time.

Nelly & Kendrick Lamar were popular incorrect guesses.

25. Plan B - Stay Too Long

2010, #9

Correct (14): DalekTurret32, dan.G*, Mack., M4NGO, Dobbo, Fisher, Jade, coi, StoneDragon, jimwatts, Zárate, Breraldine, Jordan Lee, Dan17F1

Other Answers:

Arctic Monkeys (n4yr)

White Stripes - Blue Orchid (paulgilb)

Kaiser Chiefs (Beverly)

Jet (West)

I was never really into this when it was first released and much preferred 'She Said' but this song has just held up so brilliantly for me. I honestly think I love it more every time I hear it. The breathless, gradually more intense crescendo the song ends on is heavenly and one of my favourite parts of any song ever. You think it's impossible for his voice to get any higher but it just keeps going until it reaches its epic conclusion. It's mad how massive the 'Defamation of Strickland Banks' era was for him seeing how irrelevant he has become nowadays.

All the incorrect guesses go rockier and I can see why. This is a really nice blend of genre that relies heavily on rock elements.

26. Fat Joe ft Ashanti - What's Luv?

Half-Correct:

Ja Rule featuring Ashanti - What’s Luv (jimwatts)

Other Answers:

Ariana Grande (dan.G*)

Ja Rule - Mesmerize (feat. Ashanti) (Jade)

Cameo (Beverly)

For some reason, I really thought this reached #1. It’s not a great track but it’s one that always makes me feel nostalgic. Ashanti’s version of the chorus lifted from the Tina Turner track sounds divine and really makes the track. After listening to the first 2 lines of Fat Joe’s opening verse, the first thing that comes to mind is Nicki Minaj’s line about DJ Khaled in Barbie Dreams “ain’t no fat n***a telling me what he ain’t eating”

jimwatts is so unlucky. Ja-Rule is even credited on the version on Spotify

This video always makes me laugh about this song.

27. t.A.T.u - All The Things She Said

Panic! At The Disco (Beverly)

The 2nd song here that sparked controversy for using lesbianism as a gimmick but it's an annoyingly catchy song and one I still listen to regularly. That's why it's incredibly disappointing to find out during my research for this that one of the members of t.A.T.u. is now apparently very homophobic :( The other member is apparently really cool though. The due broke up in 2011 and are not on good terms.

A massive hit and with 23 correct answers, one of the most commonly guessed songs here.

Not surprised many correctly guessed T.a.t.u. The intro is ICONIC! It reached #1 btw. :kink: Yeah I think the ginger one is homophobic - she was my favourite of the two. :( Much prefer the brunette now.

28. Lloyd ft Lil Wayne & Andre 3000 - Dedication To My Ex (Miss That)

2011, #3

Correct (20): Infludexton*, DalekTurret32, n4yr, paulgilb, dan.G*, girlsaloudjunkie, Mack., M4NGO, vibe, Dobbo, Fisher, Scene, Rush, Jade, coi, StoneDragon, MrAndrewMan, Breraldine, Jordan Lee, Dan17F1

Other Answers:

Sugababes (jimwatts)

Cee-Lo Green (Beverly)

Duffy - Mercy (West, mdh)

I kinda forgot that I had already used Lil Wayne when I was choosing this. I love this song and Lloyd's fine but it's all about Andre 3000's verse that steals the whole song for me. I had already used OutKast in my other quiz and this was a way of sneaking some more into this quiz :) I know this is one of the rare occasions where most people prefer the censored version to the explicit but I can't hear the clean one without laughing any more. Lil Wayne's "I thought a pussycat had 9 lives man" adlib must sound crazy if you've only heard the radio edit  The last 2 guesses both went for Mercy by Duffy weirdly enough.

Fun fact: the girl in this video is none other than Natalie La Rose. An artist I was going to use in this quiz but couldn't find an instrumental for :(

I forgot to change the year and number from the Fat Joe post. I thought I edited it before anyone noticed

I actually think it's the other way around regarding the t.A.T.u members.

How did I not get a little Mix or Shayne Ward !!

I bought them both !!!

29. Bob Sinclar ft Gary Pine - Love Generation

Deja vu - Love Generation (Infludexton*, StoneDragon)

Bob Sinclair (Mack.)

? - Love Generation (Scene)

Other Answers:

Pitbull feat. G.R.L. - Wild Wild Love (Fisher)

Someone happy (Beverly)

Pete's certainly right as this is one of the most upbeat, positive songs I've ever heard. It's a bit of a Kisstory classic too and there's where I fell in love with it from. This was also used as an unofficial anthem for the 2006 World Cup. This was a #1 hit all across Europe but unfairly missed the top 10 here. I challenge anyone to listen to it and not have their mood improved. Two guesses for Deja Vu, whoever they are.

30. Reverend & The Makers - Heavyweight Champion Of The World

2007, #8

Correct (9): DalekTurret32, paulgilb, dan.G*, M4NGO, Dobbo, Jade, coi, StoneDragon, Beverly

Other Answers:

Shakira - She Wolf (vibe)

The Wombats (Fisher)

Paramore (Jordan Lee)

Olly Murs (Dan17F1)

Here we have the biggest hit from the quintessential lad-band 'Reverend & The Makers'. I used to have 3 music videos downloaded on my iPod; this, Rockstar by Nickelback & Shaun The Sheep and I used to watch them all of the time. I don't have to much to say about this one apart from that it's a massive tune.

I actually think it's the other way around regarding the t.A.T.u members.

Oh yeah you're right. :o I always thought Julia was the ginger one. Okay she's back to being my favourite lol.

Massive congratulations to coi for winning with a very impressive 31/33 points.

Halfway through the quiz, Chrissmith276 send my answers for the ones that hadn't been announced. They scored 19.5 to put them equal 13th and I have no problem accepting the answers. It's up to Dan if he wants to include it in the overall leaderboard though. :)

Thanks for a great game Lewis! Definitely got me thinking. Congrats to coi. :cheer: I'm happy with tenth place.

:o Wow, knew I had done well but didn’t expect to win it!

Thanks to Lewis for hosting, and featuring a superb selection of songs! Really like most of those and no doubt I would have found it much harder otherwise! :D Enjoyed taking part in this.

Half-Correct:

Ja Rule featuring Ashanti - What’s Luv (jimwatts)

D'oh!

Happy with 15 points after I only recognised about 8 on first listen. Congrats coi and thanks for the game Lewis, and danG, mdh and M4NGO for your quizzes in the previous weeks :)

My worst placing so far but it was fun .
