September 2, 20204 yr Author Runway by Del Shannon and Ronettes - Be My Baby are great. Probably my favourite songs you have posted of the 60s ones so far (of the ones I know that is). Cryin by Roy Orbison is good (I knew the song but I didn't know it was by Roy Orbison) but my favourite from him is his cover of I Drove all Night, which I prefer to the Cyndi Lauper version that was recently in the TOTP catchups. Two entries for the Everly Brothers. I am hoping a song by another set of brothers make your list for 1967. Cilla Black Anyone Who Got A Heart I only discovered through Sheridan's Smiths version of it on the ITV Cilla drama that was on a few years ago. Its a very good song. Walk On By is a great jazz pop song, her voice in the song actually is quite similar in style I think to Sade's quite a bit later. Thanks for the comments
September 2, 20204 yr Author Fab 60's choices, many of them huge when I was a kid, many of them huge faves still. Records that have topped my personal charts since 1968 (as reissues or oldies): Summer Place (lined up to be a BJSC entry at one time :) ) Nut Rocker Be My Baby Apache You'll Never walk Alone I Just Dont Know What To Do Walk On By Anyone Who Had A Heart Downtown Move Over Darling Your number one choices for 1960, 1963, 1964 are probably the same as mine - though I'd need to check on that :D Many of the rest have hit my number one spot in a "My Number Ones Of The 60's" feature I'll run shortly. These are the tracks I liked during the 60's when I was a kid, songs I remember being mad on - so it will have some really bizarre and unexpected and unknown tracks to anyone who wasn't around at the time - and also some classics. Cheers John.
September 2, 20204 yr Author There's a few songs I like there and some big sellers that will feature on my own chart. Will say that these get better as the year progress for sure. My two favourite tracks here are in 1962 and 1964 respectively :) Cheers for the comments

September 9, 20204 yr Author Moving on to '72 and '73 then. You'll notice a certain individual appears twice in '72. His unspeakable crimes and its damaging life-long effects on his victims aside, there's also the minor inconvenience of the decision on whether to include such despicable people in retro lists or not (a similar problem awaits in the '00s lists with Lostprophets). As a kid in the late 80s/early 90s I was into 70s glam rock in a big way, and I particularly loved the two tracks featured here. So, rightly or wrongly, I decided to separate criminal from art and included them. Fortunately, he won't appear again (I always found his post '72 output a bit too 'meh'). Of course, there's many musicians past and present who've been 'problematic', some more easily forgiven and condoned than others, but that's another debate for another time. September 9, 20204 yr Oooh, sounds fab. I'm jealous. Hope you have had a great time in Barcelona. A lot of chart toppers here. You mean, you even like Middle Of The Road? It was good, ta, 17 on the plane coming back, it's so bizarre people not travelling anymore, even the Sagrada Familia, a major attraction for hordes of people, had virtually no-one there, maybe 20 or so, largely Spanish. I ADORED Middle Of The Road, along with many young boys of that time. Sally Carr's hotpants were very popular with adolescent boys and I loved the records, especially the first 3 hits. I will be revealing just how much I loved them next year as I get into the 50th anniversary charts of then and what I like now from then - I'm going to run them side by side for contrast to show how what one loves at age 13 isnt necessarily what one loves 50 years later
September 9, 20204 yr 1972: I agree Glitter was at his peak in 1972, and then his ego took over and became a huge cartoon glam rock star, albeit great fun for another 18 months or so. His first hit was virtually an instrumental, and I prefer to give credit to the late Mike Leander for his records, in the same way as I don't blame the poor Glitter Band who have been tarnished by association for the crime of naming themselves after him and actually playing the instruments on his early records. I don't see why they should be wiped from pop history due to Gadd. 15 number ones, a batch of sure-fire chart-toppers if they re-chart for me, and I genuinely love 37 of the 40, and really like the other 3! :o As this is my era, a quick list of the pop stars Ive seen in concert: Sweet, Hot Chocolate, David Bowie (twice), Gary Glitter (6 times), Alice Cooper, Sly & The Family Stone, 10CC (twice), Olivia Newton-John, Michael Jackson.... :) 1973: 13 number ones, a batch of sure-fire chart-toppers etc, I love 36, like the other 4, and have seen Sweet, Olivia Newton-John, Suzi Quatro (twice), Moody Blues, 10CC, Wizzard/Roy Wood (3 times), Mud, David Essex, Wings, Temptations, Hot Chocolate So, in summary still loving your choices! :cheer:

September 12, 20204 yr Author Onwards to '74 and '75, and the start of struggling of narrowing my faves to just 40. 56 tracks were fighting for a place in 1974 compared to 46 for '75. I just move away from them and look for someone shorter than me to stand behind  Or take a very tall friend along, that creates a natural clearing :D
September 13, 20204 yr Yes, 1975 was full of dire rubbish in amongst the golden moments, at least in the UK charts - the US charts were on the whole pretty cool in the pre-punk era. 1974 was way better. Ooh Barry Blue at 2! Peaked at 2 in my own charts that one, totally forgotten these days. Fab choices for 1974, 12 chart-toppers, and at least another 10 that could easily top my chart as oldies. Great to see forgotten greats like Roxy Music, KC, First Class, and so on make the list. No Smoking & The Javelles was a fave of mine at the time  1975: 13 chart-toppers, and again lots of forgotten gems in there, Jigsaw (my first-ever live concert), Hello, Silver Convention, and more

All the forgotten gems you mentioned all deserved to be much bigger hits. I'm surprised Jigsaw was your first ever concert, what was it like? Cheers John
September 16, 20204 yr Author Moving on to '76 and '77 then. The former year, like '75, had an awful lot of tat to wade through in order to get to the stone cold gems. '77 was when, in my opinion, the overall quality increased significantly. 1976 1. Fox – S-S-S-Single Bed 2. Electric Light Orchestra – Livin’ Thing 3. Tavares – Don’t Take Away The Music 4. Billy Ocean – Love Really Hurts Without You 5. Linda & The Funky Boys – Sold My Soul For Rock ‘N’ Roll (Gave It For Funky Soul) 6. Abba – Money Money Money 7. Diana Ross – Love Hangover 8. Tina Charles – I Love To Love (But My Baby Loves To Dance) 9. Rod Stewart – The Killing Of Georgie 10. Abba – Dancing Queen 11. Andrea True Connection – More More More 12. George McCrae – Honey I 13. Harpo – Movie Star 14. Bay City Rollers – I Only Wanna Be With You 15. Abba – Fernando 16. Dolly Parton – Jolene 17. Abba – Mamma Mia 18. Isaac Hayes Movement – Disco Connection 19.
