Crossing over into a new decade of Premier League football and Manchester City are very much the team to beat. Liverpool came agonisingly close to winning their first league title in many years. Will they finally be able to do it this season? the rest of the league will be looking to make sure that the gap is significantly narrowed and possibly overtaken this time around.

Unrelated but it is so damn satisfying that the previous season's thread finished with exactly 1000 posts.

I'm already missing the football! Going to be a long summer with no World Cup or Euros!

Yeah I noticed earlier in the day that the 2018/19 thread had 1,000 posts and over 50 pages. Normally when threads reach those levels they get closed and a new version of that thread gets opened but there was no point of starting a 2nd version of that thread.

 

 

Also I saw that last season's thread was started exactly a year ago this week and before the 2017/18 thread had reached 50 pages or 1,000 posts.

Hopefully we will have the Nations League final to enjoy. Then after that it'll only be a Wimbledon tournament away from the European qualifiers beginning!!

The womens World Cup is starting on June 7th and that should be decent. I think Copa America is taking place this summer also.

Hopefully not for too much longer. But seriously I don't think he will stay up to 10 years there. He certainly won't do a Ferguson/Wenger.

Pep is nailed on for PSG or Juventus at some point. Think there is probably some truth in the Juventus rumours, but can’t see it happening this year. Deffo don’t see him there for more than a couple of years though.

I watched the charity match between Manchester United '99 legends vs Bayern Munich '99 legends marking the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Champions League final and it brought back a lot of good memories but also at the same time brought some sadness when I think of our current squad. If the legends were 20 years younger today I would swap EVERY current Man United player out of the squad for them.

 

It would be interesting to see how that team would cope in today's climate, finishing in the top 4 would be a forgone conclusion surely and I think they would at the very least match the current Manchester City side in the Premier League. They probably wouldn't score as many goals as them because teams lower in the table pull their pants down for City as has been said here before which was something that didn't happen often back in the day for that United team.

It's difficult to compare past teams against present teams as football was completely different. I think the 1999 Treble side was really good, but they are also both very different teams. I don't even think the 1999 side was the best of the Ferguson teams, his team of 2008 was much better imo. I certainly don't think the 1999 side is as good as this current Liverpool/Man City team.

I think they have a good chance of staying up, they have quite a few players with experience of playing in the Premier League and their squad will only strengthen over the summer. I just hope they beat all of the top 6 home and away except Man United.

Well they are a bogey team of Liverpool's and I just don't like them very much.

 

Their big problem will be scoring goals. Abraham will go back to Chelsea, Grealish might leave and El Ghazi will probably stay at Lyon. I think they have some good players and will most likely strengthen, but already I would have them as favourites to go down next year along with Sheffield Utd.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is apparently in talks with billionaire Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is a relative of the Manchester City owner about selling the club.

 

If this actually happens and it's realised to it's full potential we could see the return of Newcastle as a major team in England.

We shall see what happens there with that takeover.

I do think his stubbornness has cost him a lot of support from the Chelsea fans but he's actually had a very good season at Chelsea, managing to get them back to third in the premier league, league cup final and winning the Europa league.
