Regarding Brighton saying that they want relegation to be scrapped there are these two articles:

It's not for me to explain why English fans are different from German fans, there must be a higher level of trust within the German authorities that fans wont congregate outside the home stadiums while the matches are taking place. It's because of the threat of fans loitering around the stadiums why they suggested that neutral venues be used, inside the stadium however there will be no one to cheer a home team on which is what would give a home team an advantage.

Also I didn't say that the positive test is not genuine, the player who tested positive for the virus almost certainly wouldn't have only caught it yesterday or in the last few days. He must have had it for a while.

Brighton haven't said they want relegation scrapped altogether. They have merely suggested that they would drop their objection to neutral grounds if that happened. In other words, the rules will have changed so drastically that it is a very different competition from the one that started in August. They are now being asked to accept a retrospective change to the rules that said they should play half of their games at home.

Prem allowed, legally, to return after 1st June

Always going to be the case. The Premier League will have known this for weeks. The key is the getting the logistics off the ground now which might prove a bit challenging. But good to know there is government backing.

Latest: FA chairman Greg Clarke told Premier League clubs today the governing body will not sanction 'no relegation' or voiding the season (as revealed in The Times last week). He also suggested the clubs plan what to do if the season cannot be completed.

Well there we have it. Be interested to see if West Ham's stance changes at all now, seeing as the mathmatical forumlas have them getting relegated...

I think the bottom two will get relegated and the top two in the championship will come up?

The EFL have committed to promoting three teams so no reason why there shouldn't be three down even if the season doesn't finish.

Bournemouth join Villa and Norwich on PPG, but West Ham would replace them if it's weighted as per the proposal in Leagues 1 and 2

One way or another number 19 is coming...

Too right it is! Can you imagine the chaos if the season was null and voided.

I suspect it will be 3 up and 3 down too. They may be able to complete the Championship play-offs if the season is curtailed using the PPG system.

Premier League clubs have been told they could have to repay an estimated £340m to domestic and international broadcasters - even if the season resumes behind closed doors.

And therein lies the problem. There is too much money at stake for a club just to accept anything other than relegation under the rules that applied at the start of the season.

I would never watch football ever again.

I would never watch football ever again.

I too would have a hard time investing in football again. It would probably pass, but the fallout of it would be unbelievable. I'd be shocked if it happened though.

Yeah null and void is not the way to go this far into the season. Taking the whole banter about Liverpool not winning the league out of the equation there needs to be continuity, each season is a once in a lifetime thing. Last season was "2018-19" and there will never again be a "2018" or "2019" for example.

You can't just repeat everything exactly the same in 2020-21 as how it is in this current season. It would be like playing a career mode on FIFA, getting near the end of a season and then turning off your console without saving the game on a memory card first which would mean having to start all over again from scratch.

Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli was held at knifepoint during a burglary in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Two men broke into the 24-year-old's house in north London, where he is spending lockdown with his brother and their respective partners.

Alli was threatened and punched during the incident and suffered minor facial injuries in a scuffle.

The government is "opening the door" for the return of professional football in England in June according to culture secretary Oliver Downden. He said Thursday's meeting with the Football Association, Premier League and English Football League was "positive" and "progressed plans" for the sport to resume. He also said "It is now up to the football authorities to agree and finalise the detail of their plans, and there is combined goodwill to achieve this for their fans, the football community and the nation as a whole.

So the ball is very much in the court of the Premier League now on when to resume! 12th June is looking like a likely date for it to return.

I read that whilst managers are keen to return, club captains are less so I think that June 12 date will be pushed back. If it doesn't start before 30 June I think we can say it won't be returning :(

I've also read that the club captains being the most outspoken are Mark Noble, Tory Deeney and Glen Murray. Wonder what those three all have in common.

The same Troy Deeney who said in an interview with BBC only a few weeks ago that "we've got to finish the season, literally just to get a fair outcome"

No doubt if the FA just decide to end the season on current standings or using PPG the bottom 3 teams will moan about it for ages despite being offered the chance to save themselves. This whole saga feels like a tug of war and I wish that they would just hurry up and make a final decision either way rather than this "maybe, maybe not" thing that they've got going on at the moment. Other national leagues around Europe seem to be more decisive and more united in what they want to do.

Well it's only logical that the English league follows the lead of its government in being decisively indecisive.
