mmmm The only reason teens drink and smoke so young is because their parents don't control them properly... also why teen crime is on the rise... you hardly see gangs of teens being t**** in mainland europe... something needs to be done... if the parents are punished aswel then they will be more bothered about stopping their children from doing anything that they want to.

At work yesterday I had the very same discussion and was shocked at how many people agreed with me, I doubt you would get very many people in this country saying that cigs should be lowered to 14 because it would make more people look cool ;)

I refer you to Scandanavia, the price of alcohol is prohibitively expensive (£5 a pint in places like Sweden) and Scandanavia has one of the lowest crime rates and social problems in the world, they raised the price of alcohol to price alcohol out of the price range of those that are likely to cause problems so what is wrong with pricing cigarettes out of the range of kids ? of course there are not social problems caused by cigarettes but there are severe health problems caused by cigarettes both to the smokers and people who have to breathe in their fumes so I think it is beneficial on society and the NHS to have less people smoking so massive price hikes would be a good incentive for people to give up smoking

Therefore, by raising the age, it'll be an even bigger game for underage smokers to get them, and they clearly will. It's easy enough to drink underage, and I imagine easy to get your hands on illegal drugs ... a packet of fags should pose no problem.
