November 23, 200618 yr won't make a blind bit of difference, other than lower the tax coffers changing legislation  they'll still find ways of getting their paws on the cancer sticks
November 23, 200618 yr Well scotland just always has the best ideas. Raising the age limit won't make a difference. 13 year olds still manage to get their hands on cigarettes. Bring back the belt, I say. Scotland keeping the MacDonald Brothers in X Factor is probably the worst idea in the history of the earth :)
November 23, 200618 yr smoking makes you populer, evryone knows that, i think it should be lowerd to 14 because the companys would make more money which is a good thing,
November 23, 200618 yr Scotland keeping the MacDonald Brothers in X Factor is probably the worst idea in the history of the earth :) Twas a joke. I was trying to be all self deprecating. Yeah but nobody I know in scotland is keeping them in.
November 23, 200618 yr Welcome to Scotland the "Nanny State", can't buy ciggies till 18, can't smoke in pubs, what next.......................watch this space
November 23, 200618 yr Ridiculous idea. I mean you are legally allowed to get an STD but not smoke? Pathetic, it really is. Next the alcohol age will be 21. -_-
November 23, 200618 yr mmmm The only reason teens drink and smoke so young is because their parents don't control them properly... also why teen crime is on the rise... you hardly see gangs of teens being t**** in mainland europe... something needs to be done... if the parents are punished aswel then they will be more bothered about stopping their children from doing anything that they want to.
November 23, 200618 yr i dont agree with what you just said, its nothing to do with the parents, as i said earlier smoking makes you cool and populer
November 24, 200618 yr Some parents don't know. The teen might have not told them? How is it the parents fault??
November 24, 200618 yr smoking makes you populer, evryone knows that, i think it should be lowerd to 14 because the companys would make more money which is a good thing, Someone ban this CRETIN from this section of the board please, his trolling lowers the tone  Edited November 24, 200618 yr by Kimi Räikkönen
November 24, 200618 yr Someone ban this CRETIN from this section of the board please, his trolling lowers the tone  Why dont you just ignore him?
November 24, 200618 yr Why dont you just ignore him? He has been warned time and time again by the mods in this section about his little Eric Cartman act yet he keeps doing it so it is time that action was taken to prevent trolling because it is an area for serious discussion and serious debate, the intellectual area of the board Edited November 24, 200618 yr by Kimi Räikkönen
November 24, 200618 yr Someone ban this CRETIN from this section of the board please, his trolling lowers the tone  And the comments you made in here earlier are so much better aren't they?
November 24, 200618 yr You mean my views about Farepak ? At work yesterday I had the very same discussion and was shocked at how many people agreed with me, I doubt you would get very many people in this country saying that cigs should be lowered to 14 because it would make more people look cool ;)
November 24, 200618 yr No, comments like these: It should stay as it is and instead have the price per packet raised by £2-3 so that would hopefully price cigarettes out of the range of chavs and so on Then they (normal people) should give up smoking :) There is no reason why anyone can't give up smoking
November 24, 200618 yr No, comments like these: I refer you to Scandanavia, the price of alcohol is prohibitively expensive (£5 a pint in places like Sweden) and Scandanavia has one of the lowest crime rates and social problems in the world, they raised the price of alcohol to price alcohol out of the price range of those that are likely to cause problems so what is wrong with pricing cigarettes out of the range of kids ? of course there are not social problems caused by cigarettes but there are severe health problems caused by cigarettes both to the smokers and people who have to breathe in their fumes so I think it is beneficial on society and the NHS to have less people smoking so massive price hikes would be a good incentive for people to give up smoking
November 24, 200618 yr It clearly won't make the slightest bit of difference ... Scott pointed out in another thread recently that when something is forbidden or taboo, it makes people all the more tempted to do it [in the heroin thread i believe}. Therefore, by raising the age, it'll be an even bigger game for underage smokers to get them, and they clearly will. It's easy enough to drink underage, and I imagine easy to get your hands on illegal drugs ... a packet of fags should pose no problem.

But things should not be legalised just because chavs might find them easy to get, smokers pay tax to the government with each packet but that does not compensate for the amount it costs to treat smokers on the NHS for their illnesses not to mention lost productivity at work because people are taking days off with coughs and chest infections etc, this country has a moral obligation to ensure as few people as possible smoke because smokers are a burden on the NHS which ALL people pay for be they smokers or non smokers If raising the age and hopefully ultimately the price of cigs means less people smoking then that is good for the taxpayer ultimately, saying that smoking age should not be increased because chavs want to try and look hard by buying under age is like saying we should just leave our windows and doors open at night as closed doors make it a bigger game for burglars and they will get in anyways

November 24, 200618 yr That is a ridiculous idea tbh =/ And I'm not being rude, but I actually agree with Craig tbh. There's a difference between airing an opinion and posting general rubbish to wind people uppp. [sorry].
