November 25, 200618 yr smoking makes you populer, evryone knows that, i think it should be lowerd to 14 because the companys would make more money which is a good thing, Smoking doesn't make you popular, i avoid smokers, i hate the smell it annoys me sitting next to a smoker in a lesson. I take it you are 14? Also why is feeding people who are killing people willing extra money a good thing? I am a non-smoker and I don't think it is a good idea to raise the age though. Mainly because it will make alot more of underage smokers (16 and 17 year olds.) It will also make more people do it as because you are 18 so it makes it look cooler. It is shocking how many times at work when I get authorised for alchool (as I am under 18 I need to be told i can selll it) and I am told no cause the person is buying it for teenagers out side. However most of my friends drink and I do to but it isn't like my parents gave me alchool or buy it for me but it was there if i wanted to try it. I don't go out every night and get drunk I rarley do it but it is ok to do it sometimes. The stupid thing is though even though it is illigal to buy alchool and fags under certian ages, it isn't illegal to do it which just sends out mixed messages.
November 25, 200618 yr i dont agree with what you just said, its nothing to do with the parents, as i said earlier smoking makes you cool and populer you are a complete t***,smoking does not make you popular, it gives you bad breath, you smell like an ashtray, gives you brown stains on your fingers and teeth,oh and a liitle thing called lung cancer.
November 25, 200618 yr Mainly because it will make alot more of underage smokers (16 and 17 year olds.) Smoking at 17 isn't really underaged. My cousins been smoking since age 12, that's what I call underaged.
November 25, 200618 yr Smoking at 17 isn't really underaged. My cousins been smoking since age 12, that's what I call underaged. well since 17 is younger than 18 and if it is raised to 18 then smoking at 17 is underage.
November 25, 200618 yr well since 17 is younger than 18 and if it is raised to 18 then smoking at 17 is underage. Yes but 17 isn't really a big deal, compared to 13/14 etc.
November 25, 200618 yr i dont agree with what you just said, its nothing to do with the parents, as i said earlier smoking makes you cool and populer Smoking doesn't make you cool and popular at all... well cool with the chavs if that's what you want. When people first found out I did they were all disappointed and $h!t. -_- But they don't care now because I don't much, only after I've been drinking really. ^_^ But all the "cool and popular" people just go out and get pissed. :drink:
November 26, 200618 yr As a smoker I thought I would comment in here, oh and even if it was raised to 18 I am well over the legal age so it wouldn't affect me. It should stay as it is and instead have the price per packet raised by £2-3 so that would hopefully price cigarettes out of the range of chavs and so on No. As others have said that isn't fair on the people that are legal to smoke. Then they (normal people) should give up smoking :) There is no reason why anyone can't give up smoking People may WANT to smoke Craig, for everyone goes on about the cancer, the smell blah, blah, blah some people do actually WANT to do it, and they shouldn't be penalised because people are doing it underage. smoking makes you populer, evryone knows that, i think it should be lowerd to 14 because the companys would make more money which is a good thing, It certainly doesn't. If anyone does start smoking because they think it makes you popular they really need a life. mmmm The only reason teens drink and smoke so young is because their parents don't control them properly... also why teen crime is on the rise... you hardly see gangs of teens being t**** in mainland europe... something needs to be done... if the parents are punished aswel then they will be more bothered about stopping their children from doing anything that they want to. I think that's complete rubbish if i'm honest Jackie. It depends on the individual. I started smoking when I was 15 and drinking before I was 18 and I had the most over-protective parents on the planet, they did control me properly, but there are some things parents can't prevent. If your child told you they were smoking and drinking, what would you do? Lock them up 24hrs a day? Follow them everywhere? You can't do that. In the teenage years many kids do the opposite to what they're told because they're rebelling, loads of kids do it, even I did it (back in the day). My parents controlled me perfectly fine, I may drink, I may smoke, but by no means am I any form of criminal, I don't do drugs, I don't steal, my police record is clean as a whistle. Just because people smoke and drink it does NOT make them the dregs of society.

November 26, 200618 yr People may WANT to smoke Craig I find that difficult to believe though Kelly except with a tiny minority of people, who willingly wants to get lung cancer which is one of the worst diseases on this planet ? who wants to deliberately fatten up their arteries ? who wants to deliberately die young ? who wants to deliberately have their clothes smell ? I would say in 90% of cases people want to give up but are too weak willed to do it or are simply too addicted and hooked on nicotine to stop
November 26, 200618 yr Author And isn't there some sort of mis-conception among teenage girls that smoking helps you stay thin?

Even if people are too hooked on nicotine to stop why should they be punished for that by increasing prices? And isn't there some sort of mis-conception among teenage girls that smoking helps you stay thin? Oh yeah i've heard that one before. -_-

November 26, 200618 yr It's the same with getting hammered... who wants to **** up their liver really, but we still do it. Precisely. Going on random bingers hurts your liver more than drinking regularly, take note for your next birthday Craig. ;) :P
November 27, 200618 yr As if that will stop people? I remember in Year 7 the guys got hold of fags for playtime and on the bus and we were 11. No I never smoked one :P But still these limitations mean nothing - how many kids are actually a virgin at 16 these days or have not touched a drop of alcohol by the time they reach 18? Just because you're changing the age they can get hold of these things themselves doesn't mean its going to make it go away.
November 27, 200618 yr And isn't there some sort of mis-conception among teenage girls that smoking helps you stay thin? yes... they do it to relieve hunger ....

Yes I agree it will not stop hardcore chavs etc getting cigs at any age but even if 20% of kids in this country can't get access to cigs because of this then that will save the NHS billions in years to come, the hardcore would get cigs anyways legislation would not stop them but even if this resulted in 10-20% less kids smoking then the country would benefit in the long term
November 27, 200618 yr As if only chavs smoke lol. Don't models smoke too?? If it keeps them thin... Edited November 27, 200618 yr by x-The_Royston_Poisoner-x
November 27, 200618 yr As if only chavs smoke lol. Don't models smoke too?? If it keeps them thin... Not all no but an under age smoker has to be of extremely low intelligence to believe that smoking is going to make them look cool and look hard and impress the girls so while chav is a bit of a stereotype for an under age smoker they are in effect acting like chavs
November 27, 200618 yr Loads of goths at my school do it. Not everyone does it to look cool either. How are they acting like chavs?
