June 4, 20205 yr Oh 1000%, it's very convenient. We'll just have to use our voices even louder and drown that out, if anything if just highlights systematic and structural racism even more, of course the middle class white child is at the centre of the enduring case that gets £11m spent on it. Just look for example at the death of Shukri Abdi, the police basically did nothing and couldn't be arsed immediately yet 13 years later, they're looking for the middle class white girl because her parents are doctors and apparently she matters more. What the f***. I hope you just stopped ringing their shit and told them to f*** off each time. And OBVIOUSLY they would never say that to a person's face, just shows how utterly pathetic and cowardly racists are. Why do they think that saying these disgusting things to a white person is also okay? Do they expect approval? Both times they said iit lke within earshot of me, I was doing stock counts with like a handheld system thing and honestly could have thrown it at them lmao, told them to go before they got to pay for their stuff and they both did pretty much. One hadn't got anything at that point and the other just slammed the basket down and stormed out, didn't argue but I'd have argued til I was red in the face if they wanted! I don't care about "customer service" at that point, they deserve less than nothing at that point. My boss was like let them complain and I'll tell them where to shove it, legend
June 4, 20205 yr Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but something doesn't sit right with the fact this latest 'development' in the Madeline McCann case (I say in inverted commas as this was apparently already known about) is now the cover of every newspaper and all across social media, almost like it's a distraction and something to put the police in a positive light. I don't think it's a distraction, it's just unfortunate timing. It's also (in the UK at least) one of the stories that has dominated the media for the past 13 years. It's one of the greatest mysteries I can remember. Any time something Maddy McCann comes out it's always front page news, there is so much interest in the case. I'm still seeing plenty of black lives matter coverage, certainly the stuff about John Boyega in the UK has been really powerful.Â
June 4, 20205 yr This Morning was on in the background during my lunch break and I heard one of the presenters saying that the Black Lives Matter segment was cut short because of the Madeleine breaking news - says it all!
June 4, 20205 yr Do we have a Madeleine McCann thread somewhere? Might be an idea, just so that we can keep her out of this thread.
June 4, 20205 yr I totally get people who are saying their fear the impact on corona virus the protests will have, I have the same fears having had family members hospitalised with it, thankfully they recovered, we were some of the lucky ones. It's such a hard one because I whole heartely support protests and I think this is just about as important as anything can be for protests but yes I'm terrified for all those out there protesting.
June 4, 20205 yr From images I've seen, all the protests have been done with social distancing in place. Â People have been visiting crowded beaches and parks for ages with no social distancing or protection in place. It does seem that a lot of the people (not saying you) criticising the protests for this reason are just using it as a cover for their own prejudices.
June 4, 20205 yr The protests in Belfast didn't have social distancing but I think at this stage people can make their own decisions and take the risks associated. I just hope they also think of their family members they go home to!
June 5, 20205 yr The protests in Belfast didn't have social distancing but I think at this stage people can make their own decisions and take the risks associated. I just hope they also think of their family members they go home to! But its not just a danger to family members its also means people completely unrelated to them are more likely to catch coronavirus at the supermarket after anyone who was at the protest and didn't social distance goes there. The Belfast protest and any other that didn't use social distancing still warrants criticism for such in my opinion, despite the good cause they were standing in solidarity with. June 6, 20205 yr I've criticised the negative effects of social media in the past but thank god it exists in times like this. Disgusting and extremely unnecessary behaviour from the police. Â @1268863536299675648Â @1269089279390683137Â @1268996669363888129
June 6, 20205 yr I'd love to get people's thoughts on the protests today. For every one I have seen there is a socially distanced movement, there are two which definitely do not appear to be. I applaud the sentiment, but I feel it has just given the Government a get out of jail free card and for whatever message it may bring, I also struggle to reconcile the others that are going to be put at risk.
June 6, 20205 yr The one in Berlin Alexanderplatz was defo not socially distant. It was absolutely rammo. I’ve seen pics of Manchester’s too and that looked equally rammo

I’ve seen pics of Manchester’s too and that looked equally rammo I've seen a few which are well organised to be socially distant, but they are generally in the smaller cities. The one in Manchester is ridiculous, especially when you factor in the North West being dangerously close. I am all for the sentimemt and the message but for the people that organised them (worldwide, not just the UK), it just doesn't sit right with me. It just gives the "all lives matter" crew extra ammuniton. Guess we will see in a few weeks time whether the death and infection rate increases, but is slightly worrying. Especially when the UK is on the knife edge right now.

Disgraceful.

I hope HO would back you up if they did make a complaint.
June 6, 20205 yr Check out the scenes in Whitehall currently, the R will be at 10 at this rate... It's ridiculous. As I've said before, you lose the general public. I've seen a few videos floating about and it's a whole chicken vs egg scenario.  The protests have remained relatively peaceful from what I have read/seen, but does appear to have taken a sour turn at Whitehall for whatever reason.
June 6, 20205 yr Check out the scenes in Whitehall currently, the R will be at 10 at this rate...  Just put Sky News on. Quite a lot with masks but by no means all but little social distancing.
June 6, 20205 yr The one in Berlin Alexanderplatz was defo not socially distant. It was absolutely rammo. I’ve seen pics of Manchester’s too and that looked equally rammo Around here we've had a first on Amsterdam which was a mess woth social distancing. 5000 people on a small square, it was packed.  Other protests on Utrecht, Groningen and Antwerpen have been great with social distancing

Especially when the UK is on the knife edge right now. This is what I've been seeing on my social media all day. Not that these people actually care about coronavirus and social distancing as they've been meeting up with people all through lockdown, it's just another excuse to disregard the movement.
June 6, 20205 yr @1269295415347699712Â The only consolation we can hope for is that the woman reappears and that it's happening on a small/local scale, but forced disappearances - the kidnapping of people by uniformed or plain-clothed state authorities without due process or acknowledgement of the disappearance - almost exclusively happen in third world dictatorships experiencing civil war.
