June 6, 20205 yr That's awful. Would you recognise them if they dared to return? Would your boss let them shop there again? I hope HO would back you up if they did make a complaint. If they didn't, I would no way work for a company who thought that was acceptable!!
June 6, 20205 yr Author They've defaced Churchil''s statue in London today. Disgraceful. Good. It's a piece of metal that's not worth getting sniffy over. On the UK protests, I can't in good conscience at any time say that protests should not happen, the ability to criticise the state freely is something we must protect, because if they are happening on this scale, then something, in this case racism, is severely wrong with our society and it is important to capitalise on this moment. There's plenty of far more just ammunition that can be aimed at beaches, street parties and whatever else.
June 6, 20205 yr I'd love to get people's thoughts on the protests today. For every one I have seen there is a socially distanced movement, there are two which definitely do not appear to be. Not that much of a concern outside though is it - we know that the virus is transmitted much more easily in enclosed indoor spaces. I probably had a much larger chance of contracting the virus from just going to the supermarket over the past few months during a period with a far higher community infection rate. I know we are crossing topics here but I find the condemnation of these mass gatherings by the usual suspects in certain cesspit corners of the internet, whilst simultaneously apparently fighting for the right to open up the economy and recently pouring praise and forgiveness on Dominic Cummings quite bizarre. Likewise the criticism of Cov-idiots on beaches and Dominic Cummings, and at the same time an apparent laissez-faire attitude to mass gatherings when they are a protest movement for a worthwhile cause. It is almost as if people's political views and interests were entirely guiding their commentary, and the virus is just a convenient stick used to beat up your political opponents with when required. So maybe leave the 'social distancing' and Coronavirus discussions for the appropriate topic !
June 6, 20205 yr My only concern from today is that there was a lot of people out without face coverings. Berlin is down to a small number of cases, the city is almost back to normal and we’ve defo got used to the mask for shopping, queuing to enter shops etc etc stuff  So I’m so proud of the city for going out in such a show of solidarity and force and I will tip my hat to the police as from what I can understand it’s been entirely peaceful and there’s been no escalation by cops, none of the shit that we’ve seen in the US or London with them trying to break peaceful protests. Cops here have some serious issues with right wingers and like actual AfD neonazis in their ranks that needs to be stamped the f*** out. But they did good today.  Corona or not, we need to put on a show of solidarity. People are hurting and change cannot wait any more

Why can't I go to my football games? or UK festivals? It doens't matter whether it's outside or indoors it's still a risk and can't really be used as a justification. We're living in a global pandemic which half the country seems to have forgotten about. There's no justfication for either the beach gatherings or the mass protests.  Just boggles my mind, majority of the people be it attending these protests or packing themselves to beaches will have no doubt been clapping away at 8pm every Thursday. I just think it's ill advised.

We're living in a global pandemic which half the country seems to have forgotten about. There's no justfication for either the beach gatherings or the mass protests. Well we were told by the government that the Liverpool game against Atlético Madrid (with fans from a region that was very badly affected at the time by Covid-19) on 11th March and the Cheltenham Festival on 16-19th March during a period where R was over 3 was fine, so I don't see why when R is much lower and only 1 in 1000 are currently infected that there is a concern. There is a risk yes, but you can't live your life worrying about infinitesimally small risks or you'd never leave the house - or do anything. You cannot go to a football game because invariably many people travel by public transport which would involve considerably higher risk and spread of the virus.
June 6, 20205 yr I agree with Rooney on here tbh about the ones without social distancing, it is certainly worrying with regards to the R number and also unfortunately potentially gives ammunition to those opposed to BlackLivesMatter such as perhaps some of the people in AllLivesMatter. My only hope is that most if not all the mostly younger people at the non social distancing protests will take the necessary precautions such as staying away from older people as they know that being at the protest puts them at higher risk of now having Coronavirus. The ones with social distancing I really applaud though as they are simultaneously sending messages about the two most important issues of the moment at once. June 6, 20205 yr @1269295415347699712Â The only consolation we can hope for is that the woman reappears and that it's happening on a small/local scale, but forced disappearances - the kidnapping of people by uniformed or plain-clothed state authorities without due process or acknowledgement of the disappearance - almost exclusively happen in third world dictatorships experiencing civil war. What in the world is going on in that country....

I totally agree you can't go worrying about small risks but bit different to going to a garden centre vs attending a mass protest. And you're telling me everyone who attended the protests today got to London today by bike/foot.. I'd find that very hard to believe. Might as well have Carnival back on this August Bank Holiday as well if there's no outdoor risk. Guessing everyone who will attend will be self isolating for 14 days after? Some will, but I suspect the majority won't. So instead people will be spreading the virus, most likely unknowingly to people who aren't racist or wish harm on others.  Look I get it, all the intentions are good. And I also know it's a divise topic, but it just doesn't sit right with me. There's a bigger picture to all this and part of the battle for any form of racism/bigotry is getting others on your side to advocate for change. Just with the whole Cummings debacle as well it makes a mockery of the dead.
June 6, 20205 yr The point I'm trying to make is that the risk of infection and spread is an irrelevance - a distraction to what is a very important movement and cause - used by those who seek to discredit it.
June 6, 20205 yr The point I'm trying to make is that the risk of infection and spread is an irrelevance - a distraction to what is a very important movement and cause - used by those who seek to discredit it. But you’re indirectly hurting the cause by protesting. It’s an important issue but also one which is not going to be solved overnight. Just like Covid-19. You don’t get much public sympathy when everyone is holed up on a Saturday night doing diddly squat because we’re in the middle of a pandemic. Rightly or wrongly any sign of a second spike and it will be pointed at the protests by those who choose to. Like I’ve said I know there’s no malicious intentions but I can’t agree with the mass protests and unfortunately they are going to be used to undo a lot of good.
June 6, 20205 yr What in the world is going on in that country.... On second thoughts, the concept isn't completely unknown to that country as they're something of a speciality of the right wing dictatorships in Chile and Argentina, installed by the US in the 70s and 80s during their crusade against communism.
June 6, 20205 yr Bike thrown at a horse during the protests outside a Downing Street. Â Hopefully the protests start to be banned now it is ridiculous and public support will now be lost given people are behaving like animals rather than protesting peacefully for the cause.

June 6, 20205 yr Bike thrown at a horse during the protests outside a Downing Street. Oh please it would have happened regardless. So you can make something up/repeat a lie and then when proven wrong, you claim it doesn't matter that you're wrong because in your head it was gonna happen anyway?
June 6, 20205 yr So you can make something up/repeat a lie and then when proven wrong, you claim it doesn't matter that you're wrong because in your head it was gonna happen anyway?  Can you explain to me how even if the police were moving too fast with the horses it justifies a bike being thrown at a horse? Â
