This is absolutely disgusting and those responsible should be tossed in jail for a very long time.

From Sky News: More than 1,600 physical assaults against ambulance staff are recorded between January and July, as well as a rise in sex attacks.

Ambulance workers in the UK have been subjected to hundreds of violent attacks during the coronavirus pandemic including an increase in sexual assaults, new figures have revealed.

A Sky News investigation found more than 1,600 physical assaults against ambulance staff were recorded between January and July as the country battled the COVID-19 crisis - the equivalent of more than seven attacks every day.

At least 149 sexual assaults on ambulance workers have taken place so far this year, as well as a rise in vandal attacks on ambulances and more than 2,000 verbal abuse incidents against crews, according to data released under the Freedom of Information Act.

The figures do not include the Scottish Ambulance Service, which did not respond to Sky News' freedom of information request; West Midlands Ambulance Service which provided figures for physical assaults and verbal abuse incidents over financial years, not calendar years, so could not be included; and Yorkshire Ambulance Service which provided data on assaults and verbal abuse incidents between 2018 and July 2020 but did not reveal how many occurred each year.

Anyone deliberately flouting the rules on social gatherings should get jail time too (after all putting vulnerable peoples lives at risk is essentially attempted manslaughter I think) but alas there isn't enough room in the prisons.

There won't be another lockdown. I'd only be for it if hospitals are being overun to the point of collapsing. I could see large areas put under curfews if things spiral out of contol, but I just cannot see anyway where we have a large period of lockdown nationwide. Quite simply, we can't afford another lockdown as we seem insistent on not using the Furlough scheme.

It's sounding like its going to be like whats happening in America at the moment then :( , maybe not quite as bad as I would imagine mask wearing compliance would be a higher percentage in the UK than the US.

No I don't agree with that. It's hardly in the same league of offence is it. These were assaults and some sexual assaults.

Not sure about that. Wife went to work on tube as car was in for repair and she says there are now more without masks and staff aren't doing anything. Same in shops.

I wasn't implying the same length of prison sentence though.

That would be completely illogical. After all, prisons would soon become massively overcrowded.

Exactly which is why I said that they should get short prison sentences but it was unfeasible because of prison capacity. Increased fines is a better option then.

Doesn’t surprise me about the attacks on ambulance drivers I work in housing and the way people speak to me a lot of the time is a disgrace a lot of them are scumbags and you really see how people act when they don’t get what they want - manipulation and ignorance.

Agreed- as much as the rates are rising they are still nowhere near the level that they were in March when some estimates have suggested that there were >100,000 new cases every day. Testing is much more widely available and capturing a greater proportion of the true total.

Anyway I mainly came here to post this:

Always good to see Kirsty ALL-SLOP getting angry, but in this case - I kind of agree with her. :o

I saw the cats home stuff and it’s worrying. Certainly seems a few councils have taken it upon themselves to isolate the residents from visits again. But I don’t think this is industry wide yet.

Also seems like Dido Harding has got the testing system in a huge mess. Massive backlog, the confirmed cases are actually massively lagging. Seems like some airlines are asking people to provide a negative test before boarding a flight! Wouldn’t surprise me if some employers are doing the same too. The only positive I suppose is this is happening now rather than in Late November..

Look at Dido Harding's record and it's hardly a surprise she has made a mess of the testing system.

Dido Harding is now in charge of the replacement for PHE as a reward for her great success with the 'world beating' Test and Trace app. Absolute scam, welcome to the chumocracy...
Of course it's unenforceable. It relies on people snitching on their neighbours which many just won't do. Some will though. Cops can't visit every house. Easier to break up big group outside and think that's what it's for really.

Indeed. As with so many laws, it relies on most people being sensible and sticking to the rules. After all, I'm not aware of anyone getting into trouble for going out for exercise twice in the early days of lockdown. While some people will have broken the rules, most people would have stuck to them despite knowing their chances of being caught out were close to zero.

The word ‘sensible’ is probably the defining word in that statement SH!
This is literally what Russian gov't would do (and has done before). Granting special permissions for people who like to kill for sport. I guess you could call them 'hcunters'. Next step to make Putin truly proud - making hunting Red List animals okay as well.
