Bianca Jackson (also Butcher), played by Patsy Palmer, was introduced by executive producer Leonard Lewis and appeared initially from 1993 to 1999, when Palmer opted to leave. In 2002 executive producer John Yorke brought the character back for a special spin-off show. She returned to EastEnders as a full-time character in April 2008, reintroduced by executive producer Diederick Santer. Palmer took maternity leave in 2010 and Bianca left the series in January 2011. The character returned in December 2011 after Palmer signed a "working mums" contract, which granted her leave from the soap between April and November 2012. The actress quit EastEnders in 2014 and Bianca departed in September that year. Palmer reprised the role in 2019 and 2020 for two respective guest stints.

During her first run on the show during the 1990s, she was known for her bizarre sense of style, her sharp tongue, fiery temper and for screaming "Rickaaaaaaay!" at her husband. Bianca has been featured in storylines including affairs, feuds, bereavements, family problems, spina bifida and abortion; two problematic marriages to Ricky Butcher – the first of which ended after it transpired that she had a previous affair with her mother's boyfriend Dan Sullivan; her troubled and dysfunctional reconciliation with her estranged biological father David Wicks; her friendship with Tiffany Mitchell; discovering her 15-year-old stepdaughter, Whitney Dean is being sexually abused by her fiancé, Tony King, and his subsequent arrest for paedophilia; and forming a relationship with Terry Spraggan.

Bianca has been classified by Rupert Smith, author of EastEnders: 20 years in Albert Square, as a drama queen, a "strong passionate woman" and "Walford's trouble-maker-in-chief". She has also been described as "feisty" and someone "who never minced her words". In 1996, Palmer described Bianca as someone who deserves "a good slap". She added, "I probably wouldn't like Bianca if I knew her in real-life. But I do love playing the character. She is so cheeky and gets to say outrageous things".

Denise Fox (also Wicks and Johnson), played by Diane Parish, made her first appearance on 11 May 2006 and temporarily left in early 2008 to give birth to her second child. Her exit coincided with the departure of Matt Di Angelo (Dean Wicks) and permanent departures of cast members Phil Daniels (Kevin Wicks) and Kellie Shirley (Carly Wicks). She returned to Walford on 6 June 2008. This is Parish's second role in EastEnders, as she previously played singer Lola Christie in 1998.

Introduced as a single mother to Chelsea and Libby Fox, Denise has gone on to marry two additional times. Firstly, to Kevin Wicks in 2007, who dies months later, and then to Lucas Johnson in 2009, with them divorcing two years later after he is imprisoned for murder. She also embarks on a loveless engagement to Ian Beale, flings with younger men Fatboy and Kush Kazemi and a drunken one-night stand with Phil Mitchell which results in a late in life pregnancy. Denise's third child, a son, is born in 2017, but she gives him up for adoption, shortly before her mother tells her she is adopted herself (although this was later proved untrue). Other storylines involving Denise include surviving a bus crash, losing her job, descending into poverty and a relationship with Jack Branning.

5 of the Top 10 I can guess but the other 5 could be just about anyone based on the results released.
Who is in the Top 10? I can't remember who we haven't had. Sharon? Kat? Ronnie? Pat? Peggy? Janine?

Edited by Slick

Dot, Shirley, Jean, Stacey, Tracey the barmaid?

I should have voted in this, Carol deserved higher and Pat, Peggy and Sharon deserve everything.

Ah yes, Dot, Shirley, Jean and Stacey, surely!

I would have thought so (surprised at Tracey's complete absence if so too!), which would make an all-female top 16. I think Phil and Grant probably deserved top 10, but strong women have always been one of EastEnders' strong points.

It was very close between Phil,Grant and Max for the title of top male character. There was just one point separating the three of them. Or is there still a male character to come? The top 10 starts tomorrow.

Veronica "Ronnie" Branning (also Mitchell) was played by Samantha Womack. She and her younger sister Roxy Mitchell were introduced by executive producer Diederick Santer in July 2007. As an extension to the already established Mitchell family, Ronnie quickly became a prominent character — taking over the nightclub. Not long after that, she formed a relationship with her business partner Jack Branning.

The character is introduced on 24 July 2007. Her first major storyline saw Ronnie clash with her villainous father, Archie, after it transpired that he forced his eldest daughter — at the age of 14 — to give up her newborn baby just moments after she gave birth to it. This escalates in 'The Secret Mitchell' and 'Who Killed Archie?' scenarios, wherein the former explores Ronnie's friendship with her employee Danielle Jones who later turns out to be her long-lost daughter and the latter reveals that Archie had raped Ronnie when she was 13. Soon afterwards, Ronnie becomes the subject of a controversial storyline where she swaps her dead baby with Tommy Moon — the son of her close friend Kat Moon. This contributes to Womack leaving the role, with the character departing on 7 July 2011. Womack returned on screen for two three-month-long stints, from 9 September 2013 to 1 January 2014 and from 3 March to 23 June 2014. She then returned full-time to screens on 25 September 2014. Her second stint on the show saw Ronnie involved in storylines such as killing Carl White in self-defence, marrying Charlie Cotton and having a child with him, having an affair with Vincent Hubbard, attempting to poison Dean Wicks, being stalked by Andy Flynn, and remarrying Jack before drowning along with Roxy in a swimming pool on 1 January 2017.

9. Shirley Carter

Shirley Carter, played by Linda Henry, first appeared on 7 December 2006, during episodes set in Dorset. This is Henry's second role in EastEnders, as she previously played prostitute Lorraine Salter (1991–1992). Some of her storylines have included trying and failing to rebuild relationships with her children Carly and Deano, a friendship with Heather Trott, a volatile relationship with Phil Mitchell, the introduction of her son Mick, who at first was believed to be her brother, and his family, an affair with Phil, despite him being in a relationship with Sharon Rickman and accidentally shooting Phil.

Shirley's creation was announced in September 2006, at which time she was described as being "brassy, rough, tarty and tough-as-old-boots" by media entertainment website Digital Spy. Henry said: "I'm thrilled to be joining EastEnders. I'm both nervous and excited as I've watched it for many years". Created as an extension of the established Wicks family, Shirley's arrival was welcomed by her son, Deano. Matt Di Angelo deemed his character "very fond" of his mother, keen to forge a relationship with her, and attributed Deano's childish characterisation to her absence during his formative years. Other relatives were less enthused by her arrival: Shirley developed a rivalry with Wicks matriarch Pat, which culminated in a physical fight and their arrest in April 2007. Digital Spy's Dek Hogan highlighted a similarity between the two, and commented prior to their fight that Shirley was "so like Pat was when she first arrived it's frightening."

Ronnie is an ICON. I am still so sad that she died so needlessly and pointlessly.

Ronnie was too annoying all she did was cry and moan.

Bianca and Tiffany deserves top 10 , the golden age of the show for me .

Love Shirley Tho.
