Posted November 26, 200618 yr this review is absolutely AMAZING and makes me wee a little bit with excitement, i will highlight the GREAT comments.... this is taken from some newcastle chronicle, for the newcastle gig, obviosuly  WE WAITED three years for pop diva Christina Aguilera to fulfil her promise of playing Newcastle after cancelling a gig here at the last minute on her last tour. But was it worth it? In one word - yes. Anticipation was high for this show, not least with the fact that 18 trucks had pulled up outside the Metro Radio Arena, indicating this was going to be one of the biggest productions the venue had ever hosted. Big it was too. But not, it has to be said, as big as Aguilera's voice, which was on top form throughout. Gone were the leather chaps and pure sleaze of what the trademark of 2003's Stripped tour, and in its place a slightly more demure Ms Aguilera, but one who seemed to relish every minute of her performance. The Back to Basics gig showcased much of the album of the same name, with a belting rendition of the hit single Ain't No Other Man leading the way. There were costume changes galore as Aguilera split the show into numerous segments, the highlight being the Circus section -which forms the basis of much of the Back to Basics second CD. Backed by an incredible troupe of dancers, solid band and top-notch backing singers, this was sheer class from start to finish. Candy Man, with its 1940s girlgroup sound, had the fans screaming for more - and one did get some more when he was pulled from the audience and subjected to a bit of humorous domination from the singer for Nasty Naughty Boy. That's about as raunchy as it got, and the lad, Andrew from Middlesbrought, seemed to lap it up. Aguilere appeared to enjoy her performance throughout, and there's little doubt it was the older numbers, like Dirrty, which for the main got the biggest applause. An astounding version of Lady Marmalade closed the show before she encored with a spine-tingling Beautiful and ended up with an energetic Fighter. Last week I wrote that I thought Scissor Sisters rated as one of my top shows ever at the Arena - Aguilera probably now ranks higher up that list. This was one of those shows that made hairs stand on end, a huge production, lavish set, wonderful choreography, but above all else, an incredible voice which never faltered once. She even prodnounced Newcastle correctly for the fans! Good going - and something many a fan mentioned after the show. It was a long three years, but worth every minute of it.
