Yeah Liverpool's record vs the bottom 8 W5 D5 L4 so not a given they'll win.

Annoying me keep seeing people saying it's in their own hands when it isn't. Granted it's highly unlikely if they win twice that they wouldn't qualify, but it would still be reliant on the other results, either Chelsea not winning twice or Leicester scoring fewer goals.

Should Chelsea & Liverpool win their remaining games and Leicester win on the final day it'll be Chelsea 70, Liverpool 69, Leicester 69 so it would be all down to GD. Given Leicester's would have to take a hit if they lose to Chelsea they'd need to absolutely batter Spurs on the final day to make up the difference (and that's assuming Pool don't win themselves by a large margin). The fact all 3 teams GD is almost identical makes this even more intriguing and hard to call!

Chelsea really are the ones under pressure the most as a draw against Leicester I don't think will be enough. Even then they have a tough away game to Villa to end the season and they'll no doubt have one and half eyes on the CL final then where if they win that their league position would be irrelevant anyway (barring a few less millions that I don't think they'd be crying over missing with the CL winnings).

If Chelsea and Liverpool win then the goal difference immediately at least becomes +2 to Liverpool vs Leicester before going in to the last game of the season. Assuming Leicester win 3-0 and Liverpool 2-1, then I believe it then goes to head-to-head which I think Liverpool would win. So Leicester would have to beat Spurs 4-0 - all very unlikely imo. If Liverpool win both games then Top 4 is 99.9% guaranteed.

Our record against the bottom teams this season hasn't been great and we have not won more than 4 games in a row all season. We're definitely massively vulnerable at the back but the main difference now is we are creating chances and scoring some chances - 2-3 months ago we couldn't do either. So who knows really, at least there is something to play for! Hopefully Leicester win on Tuesday as it makes everything far easier.

Liverpool getting top 4 would just be papering over the cracks of what a poor season and poor title defence it's been for them, but trust Chelsea or Leicester to f**k it up now at the last minute.

I know it's highly unlikely, but just being pedantic because a team's fate being in their own hands means it doesn't matter what happens elsewhere whereas that's not the case. The outcomes are unlikely, but ultimately Liverpool would still be reliant on something else not happening. I remember a pair of 4-1s altering the qualifiers to last seasons Championship play-offs that people didn't think was possible

Yeah that were Swansea last year! Friends with a few Jacks fans that were loving life with that turn of events

We know it has been a poor season, there is no papering over the cracks. But there are mitigating factors, which can be used as an excuse for a few periods of form certainly. I suspect if we had just one central defender we would comfortably be in the Top 4! Look how bad the likes of Villa, Newcastle and even Utd look here without key parts. We've not had our spine of players available since Matchday 5 I think

Oh I know there is still that and it could happen but ultimately I also know if you start going to chase goal difference, then funny things can happen.. funnily enough, against Crystal Palace too

Always remember Liverpool conceded a late goal vs West Ham in a 5-1 win before THAT game vs Arsenal in the 1988/89 season which meant Arsenal needed 2 instead of 3 goals, it matters no doubt about it!
Hodgson will leave Palace at the end of this season. Stellar job he's done but he's taken them as far as they can go. Though tbf what even is Palace's ambition?

I suspect it will be first and foremost to play an attractive brand of football for the fans. Then I suspect it will be to get in to Europe eventually, which can happen. I'd love to see the likes of Palace doing better in the domestic cups, but they always prioritise the league because of the gravy train and the success of failure.

That said, they're going to be high up my list for potential relegation candidates next year.

Same here. There are some players out of contract as well, notably Benteke who hasn't been firing on all cylinders during his time at Palace.

Yes, they are unlikely but not outside the realms of possibility. Therefore, I don't think you are being particularly pedantic. it would, OTOH, be excessively pedantic if the required swing in goal difference with two games per team left was around 30.

Unreal Cavani goal to score in front of the Stretty End on his first game in front of Fans at OT.

Bruno lucky to still be on the pitch tho.

The Cavani goal was great, reminded me so much of Suarez whenever Norwich turned up to town!

Nice to see the Man Utd protests out in full force today, not going to work if they decide to protest one game a year  Always count on these to knock me out of last man standing too the absolute melons. In great form the Europa Final too!

Great win for Brighton tonight. A 100% record at home all season if we only count games with fans present :cheer:

Sounds like a great game by all accouns! I wonder if Potter might become a slight favourite for the Spurs job, although big call if Kane goes and they bring Potter in.

I didn't see it but it sounds like it was a good match.
