Glad to see Strong Enough top 2, it's definitely my number 1 but Believe was an obvious number 1 from the start

#02. Strong Enough | Avg.9.7

Highest Scores: 11: (Lukuzz), 10: (Nina West, Qween, Mullo, Simon, vibe, Feel The Fever, gog lad84, Josh, George.keh, Tombo), Lowest Scores: 8: (Spiceboy, Euphprique)

At the runner up spot is..."Strong Enough", which means that the winner is....to be revealed in the next post. Released in February 1999 as the 2nd single from her 22nd studio album Believe. The song's composition and musical style is strongly reminiscent of 1970s disco music. The song received positive reviews from music critics, many calling it a highlight on the album. Upon release the song became a big International smash hit by topping the charts in Hungary & hit top 5 peaks in Belgium, France, Germany, Iceland, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland & UK, as well as top 10 peaks in Greece, New Zealand, Finland, Poland, Quebec & Italy. However in the USA it didn't receive much attention despite the previous single topping charts, with this only managing a #57 peak, but did manage to top the US Dance charts.

Although this will forever live in the shadow of its predecessor, but still manages to be a pretty great 90's dance tune that picks up where that last hit leaves off & creates something incredibly catchy with a beautiful string laden opening, before bursting into a retro disco dance anthem with some fantastic vocals where Cher sounds very relaxed against its thumping beats. A brilliant tune that more than holds its own.

#01. Believe | Avg.10.1

Highest Scores: 11: (Mullo, vibe, ready for it, Liam), 10: (Nina West, Qween, Simon, Feel The Fever, Spiceboy, Lukuzz, god lad84, Euphorique), Lowest Scores: Nothing Lower than 9

At the #1 spot & coming as a total shock to NO-ONE is..."Believe", released in October 1998 as the lead single from her 22nd studio album of the same-name & departed from Cher's pop rock style of the time for an upbeat dance-pop style. It featured a pioneering use of the audio processing software Auto-Tune to distort Cher's vocals, which became known as the "Cher effect". The lyrics describe empowerment and self-sufficiency after a painful breakup. Upon release the song totally reinvented her career by topping the charts in 23 countries worldwide. it earned Cher a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest female solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and became the highest-selling single by a solo female artist in the United Kingdom. It is one of the best-selling singles, with sales of over 11 million copies worldwide. It has been noted that this song restored her popularity & cemented her position as a pop culture icon.

Ditching the pop/rock style that brought her so much success was a huge risk that thankfully paid off with what has to be her 1000th reinvention - this time as purveyor of pumping electronic dance-pop & of course its very prominent use of auto-tune where over time other lesser artists have abused this technique, but the fabulous Cher uses it in her favour & it simply pops. To call this one of the most influential singles in modern pop is an understatement, with Cher at her upmost very peak of her iconic career. There is nothing not to like in this number with Cher's powerhouse vocal performance & aggressive beats made this an instant classic upon first listen. Just simply AMAZING!

9.7 and 10.1 both epic scores for her best 2 songs ❤️

I've never got bored of 'Believe', it's just so incredible.

Me and my Mum both bought a copy of the single (without realising), that goes to show how broad the appeal of the song is.

Believe has never ever got old for me. I never get bored of it.

Classic.
