ARIA Chartifacts

For the second week The Scissor Sisters sit atop of the

Australian charts with their first No.1 in Australia, "I Don't Feel Like

Dancing". It's the 12th No.1 this year, and by this time last year we had

20 No.1 singles in the country.

Moving up to No.2 for her third such peak-placing is Beyonce

with "Irreplacable". It's No.3 in the US, and No.5 in the UK this week, and

here in Australia it's joins

her two other No.2's which were "03 Bonnie and Clyde" (Jan 2003) and "Crazy

in Love" (July 2003). Also moving up the charts is Justin Timberlake's "My

Love" to No.3,

and again his previous single is just within the Top 10 at No.3. This track

falls from No.1 in the US, and climbs to No.2 in the UK, giving him a 2-3-4

spread in these three territories.

Akon is at No.4 with "Smack That" this week, now it's highest

placing in it's three weeks on the charts. It climbs to No.1 in the UK this

week, and was a former

No.1 in the US, where it currently sits at No.2. But his new single "I Wanna

Love You" bounds up the US Charts this week from No.12 to No.1, so he is

currently holding

Onto the Top 2 spots on the Billboard Singles Chart at the moment. The

single is at No.1 on the Physical Singles Chart this week, finally knocking

Sandi Thom off it's

12 week run atop that chart.

The Young Divas debut high on the albums chart this week, (more

later), and they also gain their second Top 10 single in Australia as

"Happening All Over Again"

Moves from No.12 to No.9 this week. Also gaining new Peaks this week are

"Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now) by Bob Sinclar at No.14, and at No.15

My Chemical

Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade" beats it's original peak of No.17.

The highest new entry comes in at No.18, JoJo's "Too Little Too

Late". It's her third Top 40 single in Australia, her previous being the

No.2 single from August 2004,

"Leave (Get Out)", which was followed by the January 2005 track "Baby it's

You" which reached No.16.

The second new entry is the second single from Robbie Williams'

latest album "Rudebox" (No.8 this week). Coming in at No.26 is "Lovelight",

and it becomes his

19th Top 50 single, and it should hang around for sometime, as Robbie will

be here soon for his summer tour.

The third single from Red Hot Chili Pepper's former No.1 album

"Stadium Arcadium" enters the charts at No.42, "Snow (Hey Yo)", whilst

several weeks ago The

Veronica's entered the Top 100 with their fifth single "Leave Me Alone",

which climbs into the Top 50 this week at No.47.

U2 have been blitzing this country, musically, politically and

socially for the past few weeks on their current world tour, and topping off

the end of their tour, they hit

the No.1 spot on the albums chart with their third Best Of compilation,

"U218 Singles". Featuring the former No.1 single "The Saints are Coming",

plus one other new track,

which had it's video-clip shot at a Melbourne Pub/Hotel recently, it becomes

the groups TENTH No.1 album here in Australia. They were already placed

second in the rankings

for Act with the Most No.1 Albums, but they are now two No.1's ahead of

their nearest competitors ranked at No.3 (Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and

Madonna who have 8

apiece). Heading the list with 14 No.1's (and could have been this week, or

still could be) are The Beatles.

With "U218 Singles" reaching the No.1, it takes the groups tally

of 'Weeks at No.1' up to 22 weeks, putting them in 16th place, the highest

again is The Beatles, who

have amassed 126 weeks at the top. Good luck anybody reaching that mark.

It's the 51st 'Best of'/'Greatest Hits' Collection to reach No.1

in Australia, and as I mentioned it's the bands third such compilation.

Their previous two were.

Nov-98 - Best of 1980 - 1990 (5 weeks)

Nov-02 - Best of 1990 - 2000 (1 week)

It's also the 19th album by an Irish act to hit No.1 in

Australia, and they are one of eight acts to do so. In fact they were the

first Irish act to top our album charts, the

others were, Sinead O'Connor, Van Morrison, Hothouse Flowers, The

Cranberries, Enya, The Corrs, and earlier this year, Westlife.

Coming in at No.2 is "Love" by The Beatles. A compilation of

their 'Love' tracks, but also a compilation as put together by Cirque De

Solie, as they are performing these

tracks in a new performance. The Beatles were last on the charts back in

November 2003, when they took "Let it Be.Naked" into the Top 10.

Talking of Love, Westlife debut at No.11 with their "The Love

Album", which features covers of ballads and loving tracks from the 80's.

The first single off the album

recently went to No.1 in the UK, a cover of the 1980 Bette Midler single

"The Rose", which was never originally released in the UK.

Debuting with their debut self-titled album at No.4 are The

Young Divas. The group is made up of four former winners and contestants

from Australian Idol, and the album

contains all diva-esque covers from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Their first

single was the Donna Summer classic from 1989 "This Time I Know it's for

Real" which went to No.2, and

this week their second single climbs to No.9, a cover of the Lonnie Gordon

1990 single "Happening All Over Again".

Thanks to Gavin Ryan

Great to see U2 at #1 :D

I expect Robbie to shoot back to #1 in the coming weeks when he begins his Aussie leg of his tour (which is the biggest tour in the History of Austrailia btw :P )

ARIA Top 50 Albums weekending 27th November 2006

1 (New) U218 Singles – U2

2 (New) Love – The Beatles

11 (New) The Love Album - Westlife

34 (New) Stop The Clocks - Oasis

Wasn't quite such a 4-way battle in Australia was it. Interesting that they seem to have bought almost the reverse of the UK.

Akon is at No.4 with "Smack That" this week, now it's highest

placing in it's three weeks on the charts. It climbs to No.1 in the UK this

week, and was a former No.1 in the US, where it currently sits at No.2. But his new single "I Wanna

Love You" bounds up the US Charts this week from No.12 to No.1...

Gavin got a few things wrong there, Smack That was never a US number 1, it was stuck at number 2 for the past 5 weeks, and I Wanna Love You jumped from 17 to 1.

And so much for Charis' prediction of number one for Westlife over there

You will have to come back and tell us all about the show
