Posted November 29, 200618 yr one of the best pop genres ever, post punk created an environment for all forms of music to be explored, and two tone, out of coventry, took the 60's ska sound and brought it to the masses.... melodic, uptempo, danceable, partytime pop spawned its own fashion/sound. THE SPECIALS....... 'too much too late', 'gangsters' (a re-working of prince busters 'al capone') MADNESS....... 'one step beyond', 'night boat to ciaro', and many other later hits heavily influenced by the original britpop sound from the 60's...mod. SELECTA.... 'on my radio' BAD MANNERS.... perhaps the greatest party time outfit, 'lip up fatty', 'walking in the sunshine'. THE BEAT.... 'mirror in the bathroom'.. 'too nice to talk to' what are your favs?...
November 29, 200618 yr I was a fan of the ska sound in late 70's,early 80's, some great sounds , some of my favourites by these artists were THE SPECIALS....... too much too young, gangsters and Ghost town MADNESS....... one step beyond, the prince night boat to Cairo and my girl SELECTA.... on my radio and missing words BAD MANNERS.... lip up fatty, walking in the sunshine, special brew THE BEAT.... mirror in the bathroom ,too nice to talk to,tears of a clown and hands off she's mine
November 30, 200618 yr Author i wonder if fans of original ska didnt like this commercial, revivalist, 'white' version of their music?.. after all, the specials 'gangsters' was a complete re-working of prince busters minor hit ('67) 'al capone'.... many of us two tone fans didnt realise this at the time, abit like todays young buggers not knowing that half the tracks around today are either covers or use samples of oldies. another discretion... many of the 79's 'mods' were into two tone/ska, yet original mods were into r&b, as there wasnt really any ska about in '64-5. the small faces, who, kinks etc were the mods choice. i know that real original teddyboys DETESTED the early 70's rock n roll revival in a glam (caberet) style...

(everything goes round and round there is no new music, etc etc) I'll pick Madness as my favourite. however bet you like all the britpop (linage to ian dury and musichall type stuff etc etc) better than the ska stuff. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0d/The_Dangermen_Sessions.jpg btw where's all the gwen stefani fans in this thread anyway??? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/25/Nd_band_shot.jpg
