Yes, it is a Roberta Flack cover which he performed earlier in the year during an Instagram Live performance.

 

 

Confirmed to be the second offering from a a 4-track EP of covers due out on December 11th. Godspeed from a couple of months back will also be included.

Any cover of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (written by Kirsty MacColl's dad) is always going to be compared with Roberta Flack's version, normally not very favourably. This version is at least a pretty good try.

EP comes tomorrow with four further covers of when the party's over (Billie Eilish), Atmosphere (Joy Division), Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer (Stevie Wonder) and When We're Older (samples Otherside by Beyoncé)

Oh the covers of 'when the party's over' and 'Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer' were both already posted on his YouTube channel earlier in the year (presuming they'll probably be the same audio), cool that they will be on streaming now though, I really liked his version of 'when the party's over', fits him perfectly! He has a cover of Nirvana's 'Come As You Are' on YouTube from around the same time as those two as well, guessing he didn't have the rights to include that on the EP or something.

 

(looks like 'Atmosphere' is also a song he's covered before in live shows / on an Instagram live stream (though I have not heard it so new to me), but 'When We're Older' is a new song).

This EP is not exactly an essential addition to his discography but have loved that he's kept busy throughout the year despite not dropping a full album, giving us two EPs plus a couple more loose singles and his great feature on 'feel away' by slowthai.

I love all of the tracks on here, I think this may end up being one of my favourite projects of his
