Ariana’s latest lead single ‘positions’ has just been certified silver and spent a 4th week at #1 in the U.K. chart! A 5th week also seems doable, which poses the question... how long can she stay at the top for? Please speculate away!

She’s already achieved the most weeks at #1 this year for a female artist, here are some other stats for her to compete with...

Longest time spent at #1 in 2020 (non-consecutively): The Weeknd - Blinding Lights (8 weeks)

Longest time spent at #1 in 2020 (consecutively): Joel Corry feat. MNEK - Head & Heart (6 weeks)

Ariana’s longest time spent at #1: thank, u next [2018] (6 weeks)

This is all so crazy to me! I’m so pleased for her that this has become such a hit. Its longevity has certainly outdone my expectations. Ariana is still holding up really well on Spotify and continues to beat all competition, with not much of note coming out for a while as far as I’m aware. So I’ve voted 8 weeks, with either LadBaby or Mariah knocking her off. Perhaps wishful thinking as Christmas songs are doing so well already... but they do have a mountain to climb with ACR.

I’m already so happy with 4 weeks and really look forward to tracking its progress further!

been very impressed with how she has held up! She is high on playlists but equally as high as her competition so not really a factor

very deserved though she would be number 1 in the US if it wasn't for radio being factored in

I voted for 7 weeks as I don't see anything overtaking her till the end of the year

Wondering how much of a threat Nathan Dawe/Little Mix will be. The latter are obviously the selling point here, as Nathan's previous hits have had the help of a re-invented classic and KSI so far. Will have to wait and see how the full thing sounds - sometimes a song can eclipse the popularity of both artists like 'Head & Heart'. Ariana's power at the top is still really strong - holding off a new Billie Eilish song in its 4th week and two big name collabs in its 5th week.

I agree that Mariah seems like her biggest competition right now. Plus LadBaby in Christmas week if that does materialise.

I think Nathan Dawe/Little Mix could surprise if the song is really solid. I think Miley/Dua and Shawn/Justin (imo) quality just wasn't up to their usual standard so that's why they haven't fared as well. Billie's reception even seems muted, I do think she's got lucky in a sense but also it really is a case of connecting with the public and being a hit!

I was certain it would have a similar trajectory to Taylor's LWYMMD initially.

if Nathan/LM doesn't smash big I think Mariah could potentially get a huge December effect and make #1.

so I'll predict 6 weeks.

I reckon 2 (possibly 3) more weeks until Mariah finally comes through - Just before or on the same week that she should have gone #1 back in 2018 but Thank U, Next blocked coincidentally. (albeit with much higher sales)
Probably 6 weeks I would think. Although could she have a small chance of the Xmas #1?

5th week now achieved!

Mariah now ahead of her on Spotify but only by 15k at the moment which will mean nothing with ACR - shall see what growth is like for that in December.

Nathan/Little Mix has not debuted in the top 50 on Spotify despite strong support so I don't think that's going to be a threat.

I'll say 6! I think she might be able to withstand the competition from Christmas songs this week, but not in the 11th December chart.

So the two people who said 5 weeks are now incorrect as she achieved a 6th week today!

6 weeks is the most popular option so she'll have outdone expectations even more if she keeps going :o

  • 2 weeks later...

A belated well done to everyone who voted for 6 weeks (providing it doesn't return there at any point :kink:) - a smash!
