Posted December 1, 200618 yr Yes, all 43  of them. -_- What a disaster! I mean 43 countries?! That is FAR too many. 29 countries for the semi-final too, how long will that last? Albania Andorra Armenia Austria Belarus Belgium Bosnia Herzegovina Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France FYR Macedonia Georgia Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Israel Latvia Lithuania Malta Moldova Monaco Montenegro Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Russia Serbia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland Turkey Ukraine United Kingdom So what do you think should be done about the ESC? I reckon scrap the semi and go back to how it was pre-2003. :arrr: But it'll never happen. -_- Thoughts?
December 1, 200618 yr They should be put in groups of table just like the football, only the top 2 from each group can qualify
December 1, 200618 yr Author They should be put in groups of table just like the football, only the top 2 from each group can qualify They should. :( And all the Baltic countries should be in a group, as should the Balkans. ^_^ Well, it should all be done by area with the Big Four and last year's winner already qualified. :drink:
December 1, 200618 yr ooo What a GREAT idea! and only those in the final should be allowed to vote.. that would cut out political voting! and turkey isn't or wasn't part of europe? i'm sure it wasn't :o
December 1, 200618 yr Author ooo What a GREAT idea! and only those in the final should be allowed to vote.. that would cut out political voting! and turkey isn't or wasn't part of europe? i'm sure it wasn't :o Turkey has always been in Europe. Israel hasn't and still aren't if that's who you are thinking of? And all of Turkey didn't used to be, only part of it I think.
December 2, 200618 yr There will only be 40 countries in the final list. The provisional list is just a list of all the countries who have officially applied. If none withdraw in the next month and all pay their fees, then sadly, under the ESC rules, Czech Republic, Georgia, and one of either Armenia, Bulgaria or Hungary will not be allowed to compete this year. As for scrapping the semi-final, unfortunately, with so many countries this would be impossible. It would end up being only the top 5 or 6 being allowed in the next year with a complete turn around in the rest of the countries. EDIT: Oops, I've just read the ESC Today article saying all countries will be allowed to participate...I had a strange feeling that might happen. Well 29 countries does seem to stretch the limits a little, but I still don't think there is enough cause or justification for an extra semi-final or some other extension just to accomodate 3 extra countries. I do think it would be a good idea to maybe let 12 countries progress to the final as opposed to 10. Edited December 2, 200618 yr by Peter30
December 3, 200618 yr I thought the limit was 40 countries ??!!?? well nice idea David withe groups :D
December 3, 200618 yr Sorry but I think having pools or groups is a terrible idea! Do you mean an individual heat for each group??
December 3, 200618 yr Author Sorry but I think having pools or groups is a terrible idea! Do you mean an individual heat for each group?? Like this: Group A Sweden Norway Iceland Ireland Group B Finland Estonia Latvia Lithuania Group C Serbia Croatia Slovenia Bosnia-Herzegovina And so on... just let a couple from each group through, and go roughly by areas.
December 3, 200618 yr Like this: Group A Sweden Norway Iceland Ireland Group B Finland Estonia Latvia Lithuania Group C Serbia Croatia Slovenia Bosnia-Herzegovina And so on... just let a couple from each group through, and go roughly by areas. Oh I see what you mean...yes that would be a pretty good idea - unless you mean having an individual contest for each of those groups!
December 3, 200618 yr Author Oh I see what you mean...yes that would be a pretty good idea - unless you mean having an individual contest for each of those groups! Haha  no! Nah they'd just all be in one contest, voting as normal and just the top two from each group go through to the final. Of course ideally there'd be no semi-final though. :( I'm still adamant the semi final/semi final voting is killing the contest! :arrr:

I suppose it's got to a point where the semi-final is nescessary, but any more would be just ludicrous
December 3, 200618 yr Turkey has always been in Europe. Israel hasn't and still aren't if that's who you are thinking of? And all of Turkey didn't used to be, only part of it I think. Morocco isn't Europe either, but they took part in 1980 as a member of the EBU. So theoretically even nations like Libya could participate if they wanted to... December 7, 200618 yr I can't understand why Israel are in there as it is in Africa. Turkey is part Europe and part Asia
December 7, 200618 yr Author I can't understand why Israel are in there as it is in Africa. Turkey is part Europe and part Asia Israel is in Asia. ^_^ And they're in the European Broadcasting Union which entitles them to participate.
