January 21, 20214 yr Is that her unintentionally bullying people? Seriously does anyone actually know anyone having/attending house parties? I don’t know a single person who is doing this. Well could be small gatherings of a few people she said and there's evidence that is going on. She doesn't just mean 15, 20, 60 people. Quadrupling the fine should be a deterrent they think. Rachel's three friends want to risk it and visit us but have told them they can't. It's against the law and I can't afford a fine. Does the householder get one too.? I mean how can you be blamed if someone comes to your house? Be rude and not let them in? :o Edited January 21, 20214 yr by common sense
January 21, 20214 yr I'd even say May seems optimistic now :drama: Euros will surely be behind closed doors. And the Olympics must also have to be cancelled completely... Rumours are that the Euros are now going to be in a single location, presumably to reduce travel between countries and increase the prospect of having a small number of fans in attendance.
January 21, 20214 yr Rumours are that the Euros are now going to be in a single location, presumably to reduce travel between countries and increase the prospect of having a small number of fans in attendance. That makes sense actually. Hospitality and pubs all may be closed until May. That's a long time and can see some more pubs and cafes and restaurants going to the wall. They say there'll be huge pressure to open up long before then.

I’m not sure anyone’s doing that.
January 21, 20214 yr Glastonbury is absolutely huge and the set up of it starts months before. There's absolutely no way it could possibly go ahead, 250k people in the same place for 4-5 days with no space to social distance, even assuming the government's planned rollout goes to schedule the majority of people likely to attend aren't in priority groups and I'd be surprised if many more than 1/3 of its attendees had any form of vaccine by then.
January 21, 20214 yr But the £800 fine is for parties of more than 15. I’m not sure anyone’s doing that. Oh is it. Didn't hear her say that.
January 21, 20214 yr Ch.4 news says MP's will petition the Cabinet and PM for restrictions to start being lifted on 8th March for the sake of business but an expert on there saying if they lift then we'll just be back in a lockdown in April or May.
January 21, 20214 yr Is that her unintentionally bullying people? Seriously does anyone actually know anyone having/attending house parties? I don’t know a single person who is doing this. Yes there was in Belfast in the student areas!

By MPs, they will mean the Covid Research Group, which are basically the Brexit/Reform Party. As much as it pains me to say it, nothing is getting lifted until Easter. I'd say we need to get the cases down to four figures per day otherwise the exact same thing we have just been through is going to happen again.

Selfishly with that being my birthday that would be THE DAY to open things up.
January 21, 20214 yr Just listening to LBC and there seems to be confusion about the number of people allowed at parties. So they've clarified it. No parties allowed but UP TO 15 the fine stays at £200 and over 15 it's now £800. People were thinking they could have 14 people and no get fined. :o Edited January 21, 20214 yr by common sense
January 21, 20214 yr Yes there was in Belfast in the student areas! There were some in London last weekend I believe.
January 21, 20214 yr Priti Patel's argument that "the rules are very simple and clear" would be a lot stronger if she didn't have to look at a script on the lectern in front of her to set them out.
January 21, 20214 yr Because has it yet been categorically proven that vaccinated people cannot spread the virus? Of course it'll boost immunity to those most vulnerable which should drive down cases & therefore deaths but in terms of actually spreading it I don't believe this has been determined? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Therefore I can't see them opening anything until the Summer months when more people are outside and there's less chance of spread much like last year. Early data from Israel shows promising results for the Pfizer vaccine in reducing transmission. Doctor Blind posted it on Tuesday. @1351255308048470016 Some incredibly good news here from Israel, where the vaccine programme has progressed the fastest so far. Although it is worth noting that the single dose that our Government are racing to get out is actually less effective than first thought - especially at bringing down rates...
January 21, 20214 yr Don’t see the issues about understanding the numbers allowed at a party, with all that’s happening a party outside of the family unit shouldn’t be happening anyway.

January 22, 20214 yr According to today's Mail, the Japanese Government has decided privately that the Olympics "can't possibly go ahead" and an official announcement is expected from the IOC soon. Also from The Mail Online: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-91...t-survival.html "Hospitality chiefs issued a dire warning about the future of many businesses last night after doctors advised that the reopening of pubs and restaurants should be pushed back to May. Industry leaders said that just one in five restaurants, pubs and bars had enough cash to get through beyond March. 3.2 million could lose their jobs" Very bleak news indeed isn't it? Costing the hospitality industry half a billion pounds for every month we're in lockdown. Edited January 22, 20214 yr by common sense

January 22, 20214 yr The Times running with the Olympics story too and they will try and go for 2032. Can't Japan just run it in summer 2022? I know it's already been delayed a year but...
January 22, 20214 yr heard wind of a friend of mine today being very anti-vax and its nice to have a spare space in my contacts...
