I had my second dose of either the trial (Johnson & Johnson) drug or the placebo today. While I was waiting for the 15-minutre observation period to end, I was having a (socially distanced) chat with a couple other volunteers. That included a discussion on what we plan to do when we are offered an approved vaccine. The other two were a similar age to me so can expect that invitation around the first half of March. When that time comes, we can talk to the people running the study and be told whether we have had the vaccine or the placebo.

 

Our initial thoughts were that we would accept the vaccine if we had been given the placebo. However, we then thought that, if everybody given the placebo does the same, the trial will ultimately become useless because it relies on being able to compare the two groups. If you were in this position, what would you do?

Because some of these people listened to the conspiracies and it’s cost them their lives. Some people don’t wear masks or don’t want the jab because they listen to the conspiracies then they end up getting it. That’s why I say that the covid deniers are worse than the virus itself

I must say I'm not aware of any Covid deniers having the reach and authority that even comes close to that which the literal government wields, especially considering said government has half the press in their back pocket. Deniers are bad, but not a legitimate blame target.

The deniers are the reason why 99% of the people who don’t want the jab don’t want the jab. I’ve even seen the remaining 1% of people who just don’t want to have the jab hitting out at the conspiracists telling them to stop spreading dangerous lies

So I'm not really to blame, but I am sorry so many of you have died 4 weeks after I'd spent months trying to make sure everyone had the bestest Xmassymus possible given the hard year we'd all had. I promised I would do that, and by Jove I delivered in that promise by giving you a few days to get together and hug and kiss your loved ones. And don't forget - those of you anxious to get your hands on granny's inheritance, had a bang-up opportunity to bring it forward a few years. So, in conclusion, VOTE FOR ME!

Some of these deniers have a platform in places like the Express and Telegraph. They also get invited onto the BBC in the interests of "balance".

I think all police officers should get the jab as a priority. Five have died from the Met. They can't arrest someone whilst practising social distancing.

What I'm starting to get frustrated by is the people who are in vulnerable groups who are still going out and about their lives as if they weren't and then getting covid and then throwing their hands in the air and pointing the finger.

 

I don't blame 'the public' en masse. But I do have an issue with individuals themselves being stupid and then crying foul as if they didn't know better.

It's long past time that lazy journalists stopped treating scientifically or other factually provable statements as being the "equal" of fake facts ie lies. We have proposed lie-spreaders like Fox News on the way here as well as in the USA and it's a journalists basic job to check facts for being correct. That's what it was like back in the 80's when I had a brief go at it. You don't print lies. You call them out for being lies. Democracy is doomed if we allow liars to get away with it....

It's good to see things picking up again. There was a noticeable dip from Sunday to Monday - in part due to the widespread snow. Hopefully we'll be back up to 400-500,000 daily being vaccinated.
