What's happening in Brazil is so heartbreaking. I do hope things improve, but they're technically going into autumn now so it doesn't look like the seasons will be working for them.

Also has anyone seen what's happening in India? There's been a massive surge there in cases with record amount of cases topping 100k recently. This could be really bad. India may be the next hotspot after Brazil.

What makes it worse is that we are import more vaccines from India than they are using on their own population.

I hadn't seen just how much Brazil had been increasing — it's so easy to get caught up in how Europe and the UK is doing. Bolsonaro needs to go.

When is the next election?

I think it's next year? Looks like Lula's running again last I heard, and given he's still a Brazilian household name, we can only hope that he or whoever else is chosen ousts Bolsonaro.

Looks awful what's happening down there.

India has an export ban currently, which is why the UK's vaccine rollout has slowed significantly. Hopefully India can vaccinate their population quickly to try to help suppress the current wave there. But with a population of over one billion it's going to prove difficult.

EMA now confirming what many suspected.

And now they are denying it according to the Guardian. Wish there would be some united front, either yes there is a risk and stop using it. Or yes there is a risk, but it is an acceptable risk.

Sounds like Millennials are going to get screwed over again whatever happens!

Apparently the trial of the AZ vaccine on under-16s is being paused.

My understanding is that it is now acknowledged that there is a risk but that it is still tiny and a much smaller risk than the risks attached to catching Covid. I’m nowhere near the stage where I’m grateful that I had the Pfizer vaccine rather than AZ.

There will be a lot of people worried about having the AZ jab, or not turning up for their AZ appointments now, probably to an extent that I think the UK government may as well suspend the AZ jab now like the European countries did while they investigate the links.

This is seriously bad news, isn't it?

This is where the fact that so many people don't trust a word Johnson says could prove to be a serious problem.

It would certainly be more reassuring if we got some sort of statement from someone we can trust.

Exactly what I was thinking :(

Estimated worldwide cost of Covid-19 to date $8-10 trillion.

Estimated increase in wealth of 2,755 dollar billionaires in 2020 - $13 trillion

Thankfully Moderna is starting to be rolled out in the UK, so hopefully this can pick up a bit of the slack and be prioritised to those age groups. I’ll happily take any of the three currently rolled out once I’m offered one.

Theres only 2m doses expected from Moderna over the next month and a bit tho - source Moderna themselves.

Moderna aren’t delivering at a quantity to anyone outwith the US that will make up for a shortfall or regulatory boundary in the use of AZ. Trust the EU on This one 😅 AZ may have vastly underdelivered but theyve sent more than Moderna. Germany has administered double the AZ jags as it has Moderna and Moderna has been in use longer and without the constantly changing guidelines on who can have it.

EU expecting 300m doses + whatever AZ can be arsed to deliver to anyone outwith the UK in the next 2.5 months. Given that it’s 200m BioNTech who have been good at keeping to their delivery targets I’m feeling good about our vaccination programme finally starting to pick up speed.

Has anyone seen the scenes from Brazil where they're digging up graves only 50 years old in Sauo Paulo and taking the bones just to landfill? To make way for Covid victims. Most are buried there, not much cremation. They haven't even asked permission from any living relatives as they do here for graves under 100 years old. Just past an emergency law and done it. Surely Brazil has enough land to make new burial sites without disturbing the dead? Apparently they can't do it on land that's legally owned by the Catholic church as they won't give permission.

I understand the need to be cautious, but let's put it in perspective: the risk of the AZ jab (potentially) causing a blood clot is 4 in 1million.

Surely this is going to do more harm than good? The anti-vax tinfoil hat wearing crowd are only going to feel emboldened.

But it's not 4 in 1 million if I am understanding it right. From a generic stats perspective it is, but your risk appears to increase of decrease depending on your age. Also important to note that 20 million 50-75 year olds may have been vaccinated but only 3 million 18-65 year olds.

Personally I'm not sure what to make of it. There's obviously something there but they can't say for sure what is causing it. I'm pro-vaccine and even I'm beginning to be slightly skeptical. If you're in that 30-49 bracket you're not really very clear.
