I didn't think of that. Sorry if that was triggering.

Don’t worry, like I said I do agree in part. It’s such a tough situation to be in but I’m starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Anyway, Wales are expected to keep masks on public transport and in hospitals and potentially in retail too when restrictions lift. These are all the places I would have kept wearing them anyway even if they were no longer mandatory.

Interesting article in the Guardian today which raises many of the concerns I’ve highlighted about lifting restrictions too soon and risks of further variants emerging and possibility of further lockdowns needed in the future!

I agree. Have been saying that into the void here for ages. This is dumb as shit. Unlocking with such a high incidence rate is the primary breeding ground for new variants. Just Look at Brazil 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm sorry as well T Boy, that's a horribly difficult position to be in and I apologise for the insensitive way I worded my post.

It’s ok, I know no one meant it in that way. I wish my parents Would just get it together though. They’ve told me they’ll get it in October but I don’t know what they think will be different by then.

I think England will end up keeping masks in the end as the government’s message is already confusing. It’s all very ‘don’t wear a mask if you don’t want to, but please wear a mask’.

I think a lot of people will carry on with masks regardless anyway.

It’s a tough one as we’re in unknown territory, there’s a really good but long thread here on Twitter

Anyone else noticed the changing of messaging from the Government too about face masks? I'm fully expecting Johnson to announce tomorrow they will be mandated on public transport and enclosed spaces for the forseeable after the backlash they have got from the general public and polls.

I’m absolutely certain they will be. As usual, they are lead by the people rather than the people being lead by them. Thankfully, this time.

Yes, I agree with a lot of those thoughts - the primary reason for delaying until 19th July (which I fully supported) was to give all >18s the opportunity for at least 1 dose of the vaccine and all >50s 2 doses. It was also because schools would be closed for the holidays and this would also help to lower transmission rates. I think continuing to mandate masks on public transport etc. is probably sensible as is requiring a negative PCR or certificate showing confirmed 2 doses of the vaccine administered AT LEAST 2 weeks before for those attending gigs/nightclubs/indoor events would also be necessary.

Delaying further would have no real benefit really, and could be more damaging as it just delays this new wave peaking in the autumn when the NHS is far busier anyway.

Anyone else think they're gonna do a u-turn today on "Freedom Day?"

I don't think they can. Pushing it back only leads to a wave in the Autumn which would be even worse for the NHS. I just think they will change attitude from last week, which is madness in itself but either they have seen some data from somewhere, or the Tories have realised there was a public/Union backlash last week and will tone it down. I just suspect masks will be mandated on public transport.

Some words of wisdom from the Health Secretary today - "I expect cases to continue rising until they start falling".

He's quite the intellectual wonder of our age isn't he...?

Sadly the Tories purged all the smart people 2 years ago so they are now left with morons who are where they are due to schooling background rather than ability. What can you expect from a man who thinks that the best way to start tackling the backlog of Health cases is to immediately let the NHS get swamped by Covid by getting rid of sensible regulations to keep the spread as low in the population as possible. About as smart as opting for Herd Immunity on Day One, and doing it again despite being seriously ill in hospital from shaking hands with Covid patients and bragging about it. Stupid people are threatened by smart people, they prefer to hang around people who are on a similar level.

If I were a journalist I'd make sure I start every question by reminding them of recent policy, and ending "so why do you think it will work this time?"

Not that I disagree entirely but can we try not to be so blunt on some quite sensitive issues? Some of us have been struggling for months with the fact that family members are refusing the vaccine. I’m sure none of you think I’d deserve to lose my parents if something did happen, but that’s not how it’s coming across.

I’m sure there are also many young people catching it before they get offered the vaccine. People working in schools, for example. A few of my colleague had to delay their second dose due to catching Covid through work and a couple even had to wait for their first dose. They were forced into mixing before they even had a chance.

I agree it’s like saying people who are in hospital for alcohol issues shouldn’t be treated for example!

I see things are going well in The Netherlands

It's certainly a worrying trend, but this is going to happen all across Europe if/when countries begin to open up. No-one is close to herd immunity yet and unlikely to get there before 2022. The vaccines don't stop people from getting infected still.

I'm honestly aggravated that people are refusing the vaccine, then getting covid and ending up in ICU.

It should be mandatory or treatment refused, especially if the people fall into vulnerable categories.

You do know that Covid isn't a threat to millions and millions of people in the UK? I'm not downplaying that it CAN be serious, but only to a TINY percentage of people. The overwhelming majority of people have lived amongst Covid since February 2020 and haven't even had a sniffle.

If people would rather continue taking their chances with Covid (like they have for the last 18 months fine) than potentially risk having side effects from a vaccine then that's their choice. There's been plenty of media coverage about people taking blood clots, brain aneurysms and full body paralysis from these vaccines - healthy young people who Covid would probably never have been a threat to.

How would you feel about making vaccines mandatory and then some poor healthy 20 year old drops dead because of it? Who's liable?

If you have the vaccine then good for you. Your chances of getting seriously ill from Covid are even smaller than they already were. You have no reason to be concerned about those refusing their vaccine. Makes no difference to your health whatsoever, and before you spin the 'BUT THEY COULD CAUSE VARIANTS!!!' nonsense remember that transmission still happens even after the vaccine and there's always going to be the possibility of the UK importing variants from other countries anyway.

Stop your nonsense. One thing I've learned about this last year and a half is that people have no clue how to understand basic data. There's a population of 67 million people in the UK - a tiny tiny tiny tiny percentage of that figure have been affected by Covid.

I mean I posted about our then 277% rise in cases, which has now gone to 576%, but everyone ignored that warning :kink: . We even did the test before entering clubs thingie, but you'd be surprised how far people are willing to go to not take that free test.

Luckily 90% of the new cases are <29 so here's hoping closing nightclubs and bara again will bring cases down and it won't spill over to older groups.

Mind you were were at 800 cases a day and less than 1% positivity, so we had a better position than England

I thought after spadam left we had managed to get a site that was free from antivaxxers. Disappointing.

90%!!! Jesus. Thats a hell of a Split but a hell of a confirmation that the vaccine works.

Hopefully things can get back under control again soon but I think we might be at the start of wave 4 now. This like 3 weeks of relative freedom was nice while it lasted
