August 24, 20213 yr There are some perfectly valid reasons for opposing vaccine passports. Likening them to the yellow star of Nazi Germany is just plain stupid and offensive.
August 24, 20213 yr The Australia issues I totally get -and is something New Zealand may find themselves in shortly- they have gone for zero covid before their population is full vaccinated, but it's so difficult. Sydney especially will be in lockdown until October/November time, I commend them for trying but they have just essentially kicked the can down the road. Really don't agree with the above statement though about vaccine passports, yes, vaccinated people can infect vaccinated people but all the data shows it spreads even more so with unvaccinated people so obviously something is having an effect on slowing the transmission down with vaccinated people. I can understand people's concerns but the Government can and already is tracking us on a day to day basis and we hand over our data to other companies like we're going shopping, so..
August 24, 20213 yr I just read that. The positivity rate of all cases recorded in the last 24 hours was 14.5% That's a really big increase on only a week ago. Still not entirely unexpected though. Schools are back there however.
August 25, 20213 yr Author I mean, as Rooney states- we already live in a high surveillance capitalist society where everything we do and consume is monitored and sold as data by private companies to the highest bidder in order to monetise literally everything that happens. People have voluntarily bought Alexa devices into their homes that provide 24/7 surveillance on them and everything they do without much argument, so I fail to see why there is this big uproar about a temporary measure that is only there to provide a small amount of incentive to get as many people vaccinated as possible (to protect each other), to help as much as possible without limiting our freedoms, to control and eradicate this virus, and will be used by governments primarily and not private companies. Frankly the rest I won't engage with because it is just paranoid offensive rubbish.
August 25, 20213 yr I'm going to vent about this here in this thread, and disclaimer, you can feel free to disagree with me... But has anyone else seen companies and social groups etc. seeming to go overboard on 'covid safety' - which I put in inverted commas because it is going much further than the legal requirement we've ever had - measures? I saw advertised this week a social meetup that was literally outside in public in a park, and it was trying to sell tickets (fiver a pop!) to 'a strictly limited number' of attendees 'for covid safety'. And asking for masks to be worn. In public, outside! A situation we've been allowed to meet strangers in with no masks for months and months even before restrictions eased more. It just makes me uneasy as an attempt to cash in on people's good nature at best and at worst, to keep people feeling fearful. This isn't the only one I've had in the last week - another social meetup group that I had assumed would be in a cafe or something insisted it had to be outside and because there was some drizzle, it was going to cancel! I see all kinds of things like this now or defaulting to zoom and...it just makes me feel like we've gone backwards in time, we weren't doing that last summer. I guess I just feel it more keenly right now because I'm trying really hard to get out there in the world and make new connections outside of the usual app means, after a very isolated 12 months.
August 25, 20213 yr The vaccination certificate on the standard NHS app shows your date of birth. I can see a lot of people objecting to that. Given what we know, having tight restrictions for an outside gathering seems rather excessive. I'm still wearing a mask on the bus and in shops, but while the weather is warm I'm generally taking it off when walking between the two. The biggest pain, now that I've finally upgraded my phone, is that face id doesn't work with a mask on
August 25, 20213 yr But so does your passport or driving license and folks are asked for that when doing stuff all the time. Most of us give loyalty schemes our DoB for birthday discounts. Honestly the amount of folks complaining about vax certs who freely broadcast shit all over social media and sign up for loyalty schemes is staggering. You already give all this information away, its only objectionable now because some absolute moron rent a gobs are mouthing off about it for a paycheque

They are not the sort of people who would object to their DOB being shown. Plenty of people around my age and above, OTOH, prefer to keep quiet about it.
August 25, 20213 yr It does when you’ve been suckered into the ecosystem far enough to also have an Apple Watch I thought about an Apple watch but decided that a gadget that only lasts 18 hours on a single charge is a bit of a pain.
August 25, 20213 yr I'm having to isolate due to someone I was out with testing positive. I've done a couple lateral flow tests with negative results, but won't get my NHS test until tomorrow. It's slightly annoying as it happened a week after my second dose. Hopefully I haven't caught it. I'm a bit worried about what's going to happen when schools go back given the situation in Scotland! Also did anyone else see about that festival in Cornwall? So far 5,000 cases have been linked to it. God forbird what would've happened if lots of festivals were on this year (I believe most cancelled/moved to next year including glastonbury).
August 25, 20213 yr I saw about it and am a bit miffed as going to Cornwall on holiday next month and the hotel we are in are already bringing in more restrictions due to the higher infection rate. I know the Cornish tourist board is already telling people without pre bookings to stay away from certain areas.
August 30, 20213 yr So I’m in a little panic right now because my friend has just tested positive on lateral flow and is getting a PCR test today. I was out with him on Friday night. I feel fine and I’ve just done a lateral flow that’s come back negative but I’m just going to keep testing daily. Having to isolate as the new school term starts would be the worst.
August 30, 20213 yr I took a lateral flow test for the first time today as I was becoming concerned that the dry cough I have at the moment may not just be the vaccine side effects any more as it has been a week. Then have since found out that you're only supposed to do lateral flow tests if you have no symptoms so, although it did come back negative, I now don't really trust it oops (I was also a little unsure if I did the swabbing correctly anyway lol). I should probably sort out getting a PCR test I guess... I don't have any other symptoms apart from the cough but apparently you are supposed to get tested if you get any one of the three major symptoms.
August 30, 20213 yr I have no symptoms whatsoever and tested negative on the LFD this morning but I just don’t think it’s possible I haven’t caught it. Just sort of in limbo, waiting for his PCR test and if it’s positive, I’ll go and get one myself. I’m double vaccinated but it doesn’t seem that makes much difference when it comes to transmission. I’ve had a rubbish day just worrying about it all.
August 30, 20213 yr If you were out with him on Friday night and he's only testing positive today it's entirely possible that you met well before he'd have been at a stage where it'd transmit, and even it were it doesn't mean you'd catch it. I know two people who've had it recently with a number of symptoms who both live with partners who never tested positive.
August 30, 20213 yr I’ve booked a test for tomorrow morning. I have to put my mind at rest and be able to plan for whatever the outcome is and I’ll probably be asked to book one by test and trace tomorrow so I’ll just get it out the way. And just to cheer me up, my parents have been awful about it. Even though I saw them yesterday, they don’t want to know about it and do not want me giving their details to test and trace. Only just this minute have they actually asked me how I am and that’s because I didn’t respond to their last message for over an hour.
