By the time this came out, I had completely forgotton that Travis had actually managed a decent-sized chart hit before in my chart, so they've already avoided one-hit-wonder status despite not having a hit after this one. It did take a few weeks of listening to this for me to finally chart it, but it took no time in cementing itself as a hit after that. It's very classic indie with lots of guitars and pianos to produce a song which is really easy to sway along to in any situation!

The definition of a slow-burner, whilst I was delighted that Biffy Clyro had finally managed another Top 100 hit, it took me a few more weeks to chart this, and even then it had to drop out of my TOp 40 and climb back in to reach its final peak. It's a brilliant song, there's nothing particularly that I would say makes it stand out other than how powerful the vocals are. It's great.

CoCo and the Butterfields really have had a good start to 2021 haven't they! (it's also the first time I've had to write 2021 on a chart history which is a bit weird). Anyway, when this came out they were sort-of fizzling out for me, with their most recent single Giants missing my Top 40 entirely. This changed that, with the group swapping their traditional folk-y sound for guitar-heavy rock, which in turn produced their first Top 10 single in three years. Since then they've been flying nice and high!

And just missing out on the Top 50 we have... FINNEAS. I have to say I wasn't really keen on listening to this guy's musi what with him being Billie Eilish's brother and everything, but I couldn't keep ignoring this one as it's really is a brilliant song, very catchy and one I ended up having to put on my playlist because of how good it is. Interested to see whether this is a one-off or not!

I don't think a song by three Americans could ever sound more like European pop, but here we are. This seems to be some sort of new project for Diplo, where he's 'presenting' Thomas Wesley which is just his real name so who knows what's going on there. Rhett and Young Thug seem like very random sidekicks for a fun dance song like this but in the end it works and finally gets Diplo his first Top 10 in my chart after years of trying.

Probably the longest-running non-Top 10 hit in my chart this year, this is the gift that keeps on giving. It didn't do much for me in the first few weeks of hearing it, but it really is a slow burner and I became a massive fan and still am, despite not hearing much from either of these acts here. I'm reliably informed that Sophie and the Giants are an actual band and not just a figment of Sophie's imagination so not sure what the rest of them do in this song but both the beat and vocals sound great here!

The highest from Roosevelt now, this one certainly takes more of an indie-pop route than Sign with some funky guitars and a bizarre music video but certainly makes me excited to hear more from this guy, another top-tier song from him.

Back to BJSC-land now, this song finally made my Personal Top 10 this week after months of trying! A massive beneficiary of me deciding to listen to the BJSC finalists on a Spotify playlist throughout the week, this did absolutely nothing for me on first listen but just continued to grow and managed one of the biggest climbs ever between listens in my votes. It definitely deserved better anyhow!

Finishing off this section is the song which, in some form or other, no-one in the Christian world (and possibly outside as well) has been able to avoid. Originally performed by Nigerian singer Sinach, when this blew up every man and his dog wanted to record a version of this, leading to some very interesting worship playlists. This just happened to be the first version of the song I heard, not really knowing that it was one of many covers, but it's a very nice cover nonetheless!

'Faces' was a grower for me too, quite understated but it turned out to be one of the best rock entries of the year!
yay for Hypnotized making top 50 here! made it to #60 in my year end list. looking forward to this supposed album of his we're getting (well he already has an album from a couple of years back which I should perhaps check out first, but he has got a lot better in recent times)

I literally just mentioned in Joseph's chart that a Nina feature was still to come, well... here it is, it's come :P For an artist who I really have little interest in she's nothing but consistent, managing a Top 10 dance feature in my chart every two years. Here she is with Swedish duo NOTD (which I keep wanting to think stands for 'N-atch of the Day') with a song about pretending to be okay about a breakup when you're actually not (at least I think that's what it's about, I'm still not certain). Fab song anyway!

Sheppard have been spiralling downhill recently but this was a song I really couldn't ignore, a beautiful song providing a message of hope during the Australian bushfires (yes, I forgot they were a thing as well with what followed). This was very unlucky to miss the #1 spot, being just behind Kensington for a couple of weeks, and is really worth a listen.

Next up it's the kings of hit-and-miss Bastille with one of their 'hit's, Another Place, which caught my eye at the end of last year. It's very standard Bastille, but done in a brilliant way, and also features 2017 EOY #1 Alessia Cara, who amazingly hadn't got a Top 10 single between that and this.

Aaand finishing off this section is the highest entry in this countdown by Circa Waves, a cheery indie-pop song about moving away to America, however our protagonist 'just doesn't know' and I don't blame him, I don't really fancy moving to North America either! He can't go now anyway as we're in the middle of a global pandemic
