December 4, 200618 yr Sorry to butt in on this but  It's quite pathetic reading this, it's all over a silly title. People say things different and you shouldn't hunt them down for it no matter if it is proper english or not
December 4, 200618 yr Author Sorry to butt in on this but  It's quite pathetic reading this, it's all over a silly title. People say things different and you shouldn't hunt them down for it no matter if it is proper english or not then youll end up in the gutter, and language will sound like that chakkaron thing thats out (an inaudable dribble of sound)
December 4, 200618 yr then youll end up in the gutter, and language will sound like that chakkaron thing thats out (an inaudable dribble of sound) End up in the gutter because of the language Im using  Hmm..
December 4, 200618 yr End up in the gutter because of the language Im using  Hmm.. He was speaking metaphorically... And in a way, he has a point, the standard of Grammar and vocabulary has been steadily eroding over the past decade or so, Americanisms and "txtspk" is all part of this rather concerning process, I'm totally convinced that proper English Grammer isn't even being taught in schools anymore. Anthony Burgess wrote a book in the 1950s called "A Clockwork Orange" (which was made into a film in the 1970s by Stanley Kubrick, just to bring things back into some kind of relevancy...) which featured marauding groups of young people all speaking in a totally nonsensical, slang language called "Nadsat" totally meaningless to anyone who wasn't part of a gang... Take a look around you today, Bugess's dystopian, hellish vision of the future is happening all around us.... I see my request to rename the forum to "The Cinema Forum" (which I see as an effective compromise..) CONTINUES TO BE FUKKIN IGNORED!!!!! <_< <_< BUT HEY, WHO THE FUKK AM I....? ONLY THE MODERATOR OF THE FORUM IS ALL.....
December 4, 200618 yr It's not us 'young lot'. I study film at college, and I'm going to do it at Uni too, the teacher says movies, he's about 40! Depends on what context he's saying it in I suppose, if he's referring to Commercial Hollywood product as 'movies', then that's kind of what I do as well, I kinda differentiate between a 'Movie' (commercial Hollywood cinema) and a 'Film', which is something a little bit more, if you get my meaning; there's a big difference between what directors like James Cameron and Lars Von Trier do, and I dont think you can really use the same term to describe their individual methods of film-making.. In saying this though, absolutely none of the lecturers on my Film Studies degree used the phrase 'movie', even when we were discussing Contemporary US Cinema and analyzing commercial 80s/90s Hollywood cinema; I guess my lecturers just had more respect for all films...
December 4, 200618 yr  gotta take a walk down the sidewalk in my new pants to go to my chevvy to get my work out of the trunk :P

He says it all the time. He knows a lot about films, he just says movies, I don't think it's because he has no respect. Maybe that's just what the man says?
December 4, 200618 yr  gotta take a walk down the sidewalk in my new pants to go to my chevvy to get my work out of the trunk :P See, they are proper american words. I really think movie/film is taking it a bit too far.

I just dont really think it's good for a teacher to use incorrect or erroneous terminology... He should really know better and should know how to differentiate....
December 4, 200618 yr I just dont really think it's good for a teacher to use incorrect or erroneous terminology... He should really know better and should know how to differentiate.... Yes but I don't mind, I'm not that picky. It hardly makes him a bad teacher.
December 4, 200618 yr Yes but I don't mind, I'm not that picky. It hardly makes him a bad teacher. No it doesn't, it just muddies the water a bit..... Studying Film in University I think you'll find rather different, and a lot harder... For example no way would you be allowed to use the term 'movie' in an academic essay or dissertation.... Is he teaching you how to reference things properly (quotations, bibliographies, filmographies, appendices, etc)..?

I already know how to reference from other subjects like history.
December 4, 200618 yr Is "The Cinema Forum" not a simpler, more 'to-the-point' and, most importantly it would seem, a less contentious title....? I'm seriously thinking of bloody deleting or closing this topic down, because some people are getting a bit bloody silly..... and your not the only one who thinks this thread was moronic in the v first place!!! then again if you really wanted to title the area wouldn't the horror dungeon be more the thing??? A football match, a pop band, a stand-up comedian....??? then again... these big USA style multiplexes
December 4, 200618 yr Hahahahahahahahahah....sounds like y'all have issues. Plus, I'm being pedantic here, but "proper English Grammer"? Serrrriously at least spell it right if you're going to have a pop.
December 4, 200618 yr This topic shouldn't have even been started, why not start a thread in the lounge about americanisms? It's so pointless. no not the lounge, the world news area. and if you wanna talk about americanism and global imperialism go here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24383
