Analysis

 

Album Chart: 2 New Entries, 1 Non-Mover, 1 Up, 16 Down: Another huge week for the album chart pushes 16 albums down this week. Long runners from Lily Allen, Carrie Underwood, Paolo Nutini, Christina Aguilera and Sandi Thom have only 1 or 2 place slips though while Shakira’s Oral Fixation Vol.2 is this weeks sole climber...Now No.1’s and Popjustice compilations leave the top 10 with Nelly Furtado and Kellie Pickler down to the foot of the top 10…Compilations from Ministry of Sound, Girls Aloud and Clubland fall down the top 10 with The Corrs Dreams album down to No.5 this week…After 2 mammoth No.1 albums Delta’s Japanese album Innocent Eyes, a compilation of her greatest hits, debuts at No.4 while Now 65 sticks at No.2…All Saints and Take That were neck and neck all week for No.1 but the boys edge it in the end with Beautiful World debuting at the top with Studio 1 down to 2nd place…

 

Singles Chart: 4 New Entries, 2 Non-Movers, 3 Up, 11 Down: Four brand new songs join the chart this week courtesy of All Saints and Take That from the top 2 albums…The Corrs look to be saying Goodbye at No.20 but is this their last ever single? There are slips all over the low end of the top 20 with Bodyrox and Beyonce sliding out of the top 10 this week…Shakira spends a 40th week on the chart and slides a place to No.10 with Hips Don’t Lie while Nelly Furtado moves down to No.9 behind All Saints Scar, one of 6 of their tracks in the top 20, which moves up to 8th position…Gwen Stefani’s tribute to The Sound of Music, Wind it Up is down to No.7 while Girls Aloud surge to No.6 with their cover of Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now…All Saints climb to No.5 with On & On while Mason are down to No.4 with Exceeder…Take That’s infectious album track Shine, sung by Mark Owen storms in at No.3 as the highest new entry while their single Patience stays at No.2 for a second week…which means that for a 7th time, All Saints are No.1 with Rock Steady!!!

All Saints have spent 7 weeks at No.1 so far with Rock Steady but can they get an 8th? Take That are putting up a huge fight with current and future singles Patience and Shine while tracks from Gwen Stefani, Girls Aloud and Mason are also in contention for the top spot...

 

The album chart is likely to see a top 5 debut for Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape while Take That will hope that Beautiful World can stay at No.1 for a second week...
