Just Kiddin' takes a pop banger to 2, VNV Nation jump their 80's-sounding When Is The Future into the top 5, The Avalanches get a 4th top 10, Johnny Marr extends his top 10's to 38 years, and Harry Styles does it a year after debuting with Treat People With Kindness, quite the hit-packed album Fine Lines. Smith & Burrows get a 2nd top 40 together, though they both stretch back to the noughties as Editors and Razorlight respectively, via I Am Arrows topping my chart in between. Sparks get a 6th top 40 off their hit-packed (here) album, for 47 years of 'em. A quiet week for newies, Jon Batiste popping in with a great 40's style video and big band jazz sound, at 59, Jessie Ware adding to her tally, Passenger returning after a long break, and Fanny Lumsden, an Aussie Country act bringing some lively fun into the chart, albeit 3 or 4 years late. There are some oldies also back, Skeeter Davis' brilliant End Of The World dates from 1962, and was covered by Sonia fairly reasonably almost 30 years later, but the original and best finally gets its chance to chart, as does Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood's Sand debuts 54 years late. This very psychedelic ballad duet has been a cult fave since I heard it first in 1971, and my mum recorded it off the radio in Singapore. To date I have managed to get it played on Radio 1 in the 80's (Simon Mayo's show) and 90's (Radio 2's Sounds Of The 60's with Brian Matthews) with the same tale about living in tropical Singapore, next to Changi Prison armed-guard-towers (literally opposite our front garden on the other side of the road, behind a big fence). It's in as a Nancy Sinatra career retrospective is out this week. I think Iphone should be a modern anthem that we get Alexa to play loudly when people come round to visit and go straight onto their phones (usually older kids and teens, but often everyone else too, it's a way of saying "I'm sorry we're SO boring for you forcing you to come round and see us and talk when you'd rather be looking at amusing Youtube videos") :lol: Cheers for the picks! :wub:
