Snow Patrol to take on solo projects

Snow Patrol members Gary Lightbody and Nathan Connolly have revealed plans to record solo albums in the New Year.

Singer Lightbody and guitarist Connolly will both concentrate on individual material when the band's tour ends in January. However both members insist the move does not signal the end for Snow Patrol.

Lightbody said: "I'm going to go off and do something on my own in January. (But) we'll always be together - just like the end of Grease."

Meanwhile, Connolly said of his solo plans: "I don't know what it'll end up as. It'll be melodic and tuneful but we'll see what happens when I finally get round to doing it."

Do you think this is a good or a bad move for the group?

Well its a bad move for the group in terms of the group itself.

I know after a couple of albums most bands decide to venture into solo projects as a little side-project so I don't think this will mean the end of the band. :D

Hope it won't be the end for Snow Patrol. Gary material maybe good you never know. Probably more mellow stuff.

I agree with that. :D Gary's material will be more sort of Chasing Cars esque compared to You're All That I Have. ^_^

I don't understand why indie bands do solo projects. It's not like they take turns to sing. There is always a lead singer. I suppose they just want to go by there name instead of the band name.

Gary could do it alone, i'm 100% sure

Yeah he could make it as a solo artist.

There has been a few indie bands who have taken on solo projects like Tom from Radiohead and James Bradford Dean. They mainly just bring out an album and not really release any tunes.

My Dad went to Snow Patrol with me and he said ''I bet the lead singer goes solo soon'' i thought, no way! lol... :D

Oh no your dad jinx them :o

I've seen James Bradford Dean at the V festival in Stafford and it was pouring with rain! He sang "Raindrops keep falling my head" because we looked so miserable with the weather. It really cheered me up!

He is the lead singer of Manics Street Preaches. He was not bad. My mate wanted to see him.

Radiohead are alright. I do like "creep" and "karma police"

Not heard of the Manics street preaches? :o They had a number one with "if you tolerate this, and your children will be next"

I think they will struggle as solo artists as their music is good as a band, solo I think I would probably find their material slightly boring unless they're going to be releasing faster tracks.
