don't get disheartened not getting to the final peeps, it's a slight disappointment but it's not flopping if some people discover it, especially if they are passionate about it, niche interesting stuff is the lifeblood of the competition, and just cos some tracks have a wider appeal doesn't mean they will generate passion in the long term - great if they do, but Least Offensive isn't a strategy to be remembered in the long run.

I'd rather come 9th in the final (a rare major victory for us) than win, if, say for example, cough, Lucia & The Big Boys made the BJ personal charts ahead of some of those that got more votes - shows passion for the track... :D

My ambition is to enter a track that everybody hates (but I love) and get that elusive nil points

Yeah one of my favourite entries I’ve ever sent DNQ’d and is actually my worst performing song of all contests in terms of SF points (Jessi - Numb)
My fave song I've ever sent DNQ'd as long you love the song and people discover the song you have done good 💙

Glad I qualified because that set of results wasn't great for my favourites!

Fair point here! I think I put KING as the best song of 2020 in my opinion. Sad it didn't go through because I have so much hope in this song, and the bass would appeal to quite a lot of people me thinks, unfortunately that was pretty wrong. :hithead:

But this does remind me that it is important to have your own style and niche with your nation. Although I'm tempted to send a very pop entry next edition which I have faith it can do really well, I still think it might be better to send something indie/alternative once again to show how diverse the genre is, and how interesting it can be!

My gut instinct was to log off instead of following the results and it seems like I was right! A bit disheartening to get two 21sts in 3 months but what can ya do =/ thanks to everybody who voted for ALGTR!

This one was embarassing because I had the votes ready and I fell asleep

That was said with the passion of Cher (to Nicolas Cage) in Moonstruck. (You're late!)

..and Numb was bloody brilliant!

Catching up on the Q streak after a few months of not doing this again ~ belatedly added in the updates for BJSCs 129, 130 and 131 to my last posts in the respective semi-final threads, here are the highlights from those updates:

129

Extending national records: Altyr Muunilinst, Lookylion, Mosquetania

Mosquetania further extend their record in non-consecutive contests. Kathaldazia and Ojnoj's current runs in non-consecutive contests match their previous records in consecutive contests (Ojnoj previously achieved 14 qualifiers in a row in BJSCs 25-38; Kathaldazia previously achieved 3 qualifiers in a row in BJSCs 15-17 and 68-70).

130

Extending national records: Altyr Muunilinst, Lookylion, Mosquetania

Matching previous national records: Pagasa (yet to qualify to consecutive finals, previously qualified in BJSCs 82 and 128), POPHub (previously achieved in BJSCs 66-68 (under the name Terra di Campioni)), Why So Sirius (yet to qualify to consecutive finals, previously qualified in BJSC 126)

Mosquetania further extend their record in non-consecutive contests. Kathaldazia exceed their national record in non-consecutive contests after matching it in the previous contest (their consecutive contests record remains at 3).

131

Extending national records: Altyr Muunilinst, Lookylion, Mosquetania

Exceeding national records matched in previous contest: POPHub

Qualifying for the first time: Chestoria (after 7 previous DNQs)

Matching previous national records: Greenfroze (previously achieved in BJSCs 24-33), Kathaldazia (previously achieved in BJSCs 15-17 and 68-70), Utopia (previously achieved in BJSCs 3-7, also matched by a run of 5 qualifiers in non-consecutive contests (BJSCs 25, 27 & 34-36))

Kathaldazia and Mosquetania further extend their records in non-consecutive contests.

And now back up to date ~

* more consecutive entries (17 for Hendinia, 12 for Aquafina, 4 for Zanmatony) have qualified but these streaks were broken by breaks from the contest

Altyr Muunilinst have remained in the lead since I last did an update to this extending their national record each time, now hitting 19 consecutive finals, if they can manage one more they'll become only the ninth nation ever to have 20 straight appearances in BJSC finals. The last two updates each saw a fellow 10+ streak nation dropping off the list (Ojnoj in BJSC 130 and United States of Jack in BJSC 131) and that trend continues this time with Greenfroze biting the dust, leaving runners-up Hendinia as the only other nation who have a year or more of unbroken qualifications, while Aeroche cruise up to 3rd place with their current run of 9 in a row. POPHub extend their existing national record to 5 in a row, while Chestoria have a qualification streak for the first time as they make it 2 in a row after their excruciating opening run of 7 straight DNQs. Will they end up following that with 7 qualifiers?

Utopia have been competing on and off since the second ever contest but due to a combination of frequently taking breaks from the contest and not necessarily always providing the most contest friendly entries they'd surprisingly never before had more than 5 entries in a row qualify (having made it to 5 in a row twice before, once in consecutive contests and once not), but that finally changes now as they make it to 6 in a row for the first time. It's a similar story with Caerfyrddia who appeared in 8 consecutive finals with their first 8 entries (aided by the first 7 of those being in One Big Final contests) all the way back in BJSCs 26-33 and only now have managed to match that, this time without the aid of the One Big Final format. (Caerfyrddia also have a previous run that matched their record but not in consecutive contests, as they had 8 consecutive entries make the final in a run started in BJSCs 53-58, then resumed with BJSC 61 and after a very long disappearance completed with another comeback in BJSC 100 - in fact since BJSC 53 they have still only DNQed once (in BJSC 124), if not for that they'd now be on a run of 16 qualifiers in a row across the span of 80 contests).

Also of note this month is the dual unprecedented cases of Aquafina and Zanmatony. At the time of both nations' previous thought-to-be-permanent bans from the contest both were on their own record runs of appearances in the final, Aquafina having 11 in a row in BJSCs 68-78 and Zanmatony 3 in a row in BJSCs 97-99. With both of them qualifying with their comeback entries they are reset to 1 on the main list but both continue those national records if we ignore gaps in participation. (Of course with Aquafina there's another complication here in that their last entry appeared in the final of its contest but was ultimately disqualified - for the purposes of my spreadsheet 'qualifier' is synonymous with 'appeared in the final' so I count 'Important' as being a part of Aquafina's streak despite its unique circumstances).
