So far I have put that they are Heavy Metal influenced by Pop..
December 5, 200618 yr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns_N'_Roses Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band that gained fame during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their 1987 major label debut, Appetite for Destruction, earned them worldwide popularity, solidified by the simultaneous release in 1991 of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II and the subsequent world tour. Having sold an estimated 90 million albums worldwide, they are one of America's most successful hard rock bands. The band's musical style, onstage presence, and image helped usher in a new era within the dominant hard rock and heavy metal scene of the 1980s. While glam metal was the leading genre in record sales, video charts, and radio airplay, Guns N' Roses offered a grittier, more traditionalist take on rock music, which helped to popularize the sub-genre known as sleaze rock and won many fans who admired their apparent authenticity. The band enjoyed worldwide success from 1987 through 1993, but the clashing personalities of various band members, coupled with heavy alcohol and drug abuse hindered the group's ability to work together. Today, frontman Axl Rose is the only original member in the band's current lineup.
December 5, 200618 yr ive never heard of 'sleeze rock' either .... theres so many sib genres of rock now anyway, guns n roses to me are just straight rock, as ok they have dabbled with commercial tracks in the pop charts but their albums are to me just straight 'rock', not heavy, not thrash, not anything, just 'rock'.
December 5, 200618 yr I remember being around at the time of G 'N' R's first wave of popularity, and the term "sleaze rock" was banded around, it was a term first used to describe The New York Dolls if memory serves as well.. I think the likes of Hanoi Rocks, LA Guns, Backyard Babies and some others were put into this category as well.. As they went on though, I think that Guns N Roses could be generally described more as generic Hard Rock...

December 6, 200618 yr upon reflection i think g n r are 'soft rock'... they aint really hard... After "Appetite For Destruction" (which is a pretty hard rockin' album..) I'd agree.. Stuff like "November Rain" is seriously 'softie' territory....
December 6, 200618 yr After "Appetite For Destruction" (which is a pretty hard rockin' album..) I'd agree.. Stuff like "November Rain" is seriously 'softie' territory.... probably swayed by the money to be more commercial, pandering to the aor crowd.
December 6, 200618 yr probably swayed by the money to be more commercial, pandering to the aor crowd. Oh absolutely mate, I really liked G 'N' R in the early days (late 80s..).. You have no idea how disappointed I was when I heard the "Use Your Illusion" albums.... I actually took them back and demanded a refund....

December 6, 200618 yr One of the bits to do with my research said that Guns N Roses changed there mainstreem for the UK Charts for Sweet Child O Mine so there music was more commercial it happened all the time in the good old days (lol). the 60's and the punk era were littered with formerly creative artists 'selling out' and producing commercial c**p at the behest of the record companies they had signed too. eric clapton left the yardbirds due to this, manfred mann detested their later pop material as they were wanting to experiment more but needed to have hit singles. many punk acts 'sold out', the boomtown rats for eg 'looking after number one'... pop punk... within a few years they were courting the very audience punk scorned! strangely enough geldof of course fronted the biggest youth charity event ever... live aid... not exactly 'looking after number one ' eh bob?...lol.
December 6, 200618 yr One of the bits to do with my research said that Guns N Roses changed there mainstreem for the UK Charts for Sweet Child O Mine so there music was more commercial Whatever the reason, it was an appalling decision to go more mainstream, and rather unnecessary too given the success the likes of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains were about to have at more or less the same time with a more rockier 'grunge' sound, not to mention the fact that "Appetite For Destruction" hardly did badly in its own right... Just why the hell would a band doing so well in America change its style for the UK market...? Makes no sense, the UK market is tiny and insignificant compared to the US market, Brit rockers Bush totally gave up on the UK and marketed themselves purely for the US and did far better there than they ever could over here, selling something like 10 million albums...
January 26, 200718 yr upon reflection i think g n r are 'soft rock'... they aint really hard... Soft Rock.... mmmm......no. Guns N Roses were and still are Hard Rock.
January 31, 200718 yr Soft Rock.... mmmm......no. Guns N Roses were and still are Hard Rock. Sorry mate, after "Appetite.." they went very 'softie'.....
