Posted December 5, 200618 yr I sometimes may listen to one particular radio station all day :D , and have noticed that each DJ may play exactly the same tunes as the previous programme (but in a different order), so what exactly is the role of the DJ?
December 5, 200618 yr The role of the Radio DJ these days just seems to be to promote whatever sh!te their bosses' vested interests tell them to promote....

December 7, 200618 yr The role of the Radio DJ these days just seems to be to promote whatever sh!te their bosses' vested interests tell them to promote.... I love it when they claim to be taking requests, too. Yeah, I'm SURE some casual listener requested you play Beyonce for the 3rd time in the last hour
December 7, 200618 yr They probably did. Remember Radio 1 had those bank holidays where you could request ANY song. At least two people per hour went on a long, creative thought process and requested songs from the Radio 1 A list. w****rs.
December 7, 200618 yr im at a radio station for work exprience. i dont think people know how much work is done by a dj, they prepare their own comps, songs etc plus work the computer which runs the songs, jingles and adverts.
December 7, 200618 yr Author im at a radio station for work exprience. i dont think people know how much work is done by a dj, they prepare their own comps, songs etc plus work the computer which runs the songs, jingles and adverts I wondered if there were any DJs on here who could throw some insight into how it all works but glad that you are able to see behind the scenes. My local DJs work really hard. Most have a programme 6 days a week, appear in our local city for promotion and then dj in the clubs at night. What I was wondering was how much imput they have into what records are played. Who decides the playlist? It would be nice to identify the DJ with what music he played but sadly that is no longer the case.

But evening radio 1 hosts still all have a niche - even though the best ones had to make way for Colin Murray recently and are now broadcasting in the graveyard slots.
December 10, 200618 yr The role of the Radio DJ these days just seems to be to promote whatever sh!te their bosses' vested interests tell them to promote.... well obv its to present a show and be a personality. the music on the other hand in most daytime and AC cases is all located on a big jukebox with a great programme that blands it all out to it wont offend the public at large with some thrash (or the Nine Inch Nails*). this makes the advertisers (in mainstream com radio) very happy as they buy loads of airtime in a pre-determed slot. this is why most ads are roughly on at the same time and why if you switch to radio 2 to escape the ads the feeling will be on . http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d5/Thefeelingband.png *note: i mention NIN because the other morning in my Mum's car i switched over and found Johnny Cash's Hurt on the radio whilst she was in the shop, she came back while Cash was singing. This was alright and not offensive. however after that NIN came on with head like a hole. this gave my mum a headache and the radio had to be turned back to the station it was on in the first place (radio 2 playing the feeling yet again :puke2: ) Na-lIw8kxEU d-DIh52GdSw

Must confess to only listening to Radio 1 in the day(unless I am in the car at night). Must try to tune in at night a bit more to see if it changes my opinion.
