Posted December 6, 200618 yr thoughts anyone?... the second biggest group of the 60's now often overlooked but jagger/richard penned some of the best pop music of the time. 'the last time' 'paint it black' '19th nervous breakdown' 'lets spend the night together' are among my favs, though i think that 'satisfaction' is overplayed and not their best (though as ever lyrically great)
December 6, 200618 yr Were a great band but when was the last time they actually made a truely brilliant song? :( Their last album was v poor imo. Nothing memerable whatsoever <_< Other than the songs you mentioned, other favs of mine include..... Under My Thumb, Sympathy For The Devil, Gimmi Shelter, Time is on my side, Angie and You can't always get what you want. ^_^
December 6, 200618 yr Author well, tbh i was ignoring the recent material, focusing on their golden period from the mid 60's ... although they still produced some great music sporadically through the 70's and 80's. tracks like 'undercover of the night' showed a maturity tackling serious political issues.
December 6, 200618 yr I still like the Stones music, after all these years. Sometimes overlooked when most people focused on the Beatles, but no doubt Richards and Jagger penned some of the best songs in the last 40 years. I think they are still the highest grossing touring band, ever! My favs were Start me up, Wild Horses, The last time, Paint it black, Undercover of the night, Fool to cry and Harlem shuffle not forgetting Brown sugar. :D
December 7, 200618 yr My favourite song of thiers is Out Of Time, which was a number one for Chris Farlowe. :cheer:
December 7, 200618 yr The albums between Beggar's Banquet and Exile on Main Street are pretty essential. Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock'n'Roll are listenable. Any later album beware. No matter how bad the albums got Rolling Stone magazine always hailed the latest album their 'best since Exile'.
