5. Siobhan - I feel like Siobhan gets a bit too much credit from the fan base. Her role as a Sugababe has left a lot to be desired for me. She barely lasted 5 minutes before she legged it and then she blamed Keisha for being a bully (this is where it all started) something which she has never commented on since (as far as I am aware) which always leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth regarding her. Don't get me wrong Amelle said the same but at least she has never gone back to a group with her in it. If we were talking about them as solo artists however Siobhan would be #1 as Ghost is a fantastic album!

Has Heidi given an interview where she gives an explanation about stabbing Keisha in the back and then letting the media buy into the angry black woman trope while she attempted to soldier on with Amelle and Jade (built upon the whole "Keisha is a bully and deserved to be kicked out" thing)?

Yeah no, just seeing if we're measuring them by the same scale here.

For the record, Siobhan did actually discuss it quite a lot when promoting Ghosts. I think the famous quote was something about “you never forget (or forgive?) the first bully in your life”.

It was also addressed when they came back as MKS with them talking about the reconciliation process and how it actually went down and that a lot of it was manipulated by their management

Wow, I didn’t know that.

This would have been different management to to 2009 yes?

I understand that it was the same management. They started out under RonTom but a couple left to set up Crown and those that left managed Sugababes and they came with. They had a fairly consistent management team around them all the way through to Freedom

Ah ok, thanks for that. I thought they might’ve changed after they left London Records.

I had to triple check myself but in the liner notes for One Touch they mention their “usually large management team” that includes Sarah Stennett and Mark Hardgreaves. Those two are thanked in Sweet 7’s album notes as well. Quite sickeningly, Keisha thanks Mark in the C&S notes for “always having the bands best interests at heart”.

Whitney Asomani does a lot of their stuff now. Not sure if she’s just contracted in to do the marketing or if she’s their management, but she’s the brains behind both Flowers marketing and now the One Touch Anniversary stuff.

Ah wow, fascinating. Thanks.

It does seems a little strange. I wonder if the whole truth will ever come to public knowledge.

Mutya (iconic legend)

Keisha

Siobhan

Heidi

Amelle

Jade (loved her small solo career but she’s not a Sugababe)

The original/current line-up is far and away the most talented for me. Heidi was a good addition though and I very much appreciated her contribution to the band at their peak.

Poor Keisha... Mark played such an important role in the massive successes of the 2.0 years, but he was also the one who completely ruined the band in the end. Their 2006 Independent interview - in which he was very upfront about how he viewed Sugababes as a brand, and its members as disposable - made me so mad. He completely overlooked the damage that came with Mutya's departure:

He was able to do this so smoothly, he tells me, "because we've always focused on the music with Sugababes rather than them as individuals. We've turned away a lot of endorsement deals and high-profile attachments along the way specifically so we could remain solely about that - the music - because that's where the girls' strength really lies."

Had they done a Spice Girls and lent their names to any old product, he argues, they would have become a far more disposable proposition. Instead, they remained fresh and relevant. "And so to then lose Mutya and be able to replace her as seamlessly as we did, proves that the Sugababes brand, if you like, overrides any single personality."

By extension, then, could he replace every band member for a clone whenever the need arises?

"Well, I don't mean it to sound quite so cold and calculated, and I'm not saying that we'll see Sugababes in 10 years' time in its fourth line-up but, yes, I suppose there is an element of truth to that."

Anyway, my ranking is as follows:

Mutya (always has been and always will be my #1)

Keisha

Siobhan/Heidi (I adore them both, but I do find it difficult to forgive Heidi for her actions in 2009, even though I can't imagine it was an easy time)

Amelle

Jade (for me, Jade doesn't count - I just don't see 4.0 as 'Sugababes')

Keisha comes across really sweet and friendly so I find the whole bullying thing really confusing. Amelle said the last year working with Keisha was just so difficult and she couldn't carry on with it. It's difficult knowing what the truth of the situation is.

Mutya Keisha and Siobhan are equal number 1# for me, but in keeping up with the game I will rank.

1 Siobhan - Everything about this girl I adore. For me, she was always the missing element to the Sugababes when she left. She brings so much creativity, talent, and voice to the Sugababes. Immensely underrated as a singer and artist, and I am glad people will start seeing what some of us fans have known for years. I love her angelic- light voice. Ghost album.......enough said.

2 Keisha - I mean she is the queen of the sugababes. Kept the band alive for many years, worked with shonky people that treated her like garbage, and for me her voice is signature for the Sugababes. I also adore her writing skills and adlibs. I love her sense of humor, and how she can have a laugh at her self.

3 Mutya - Just a genuine sweet heart, appreciates her fans, and her honey-warm voice is everything.

4 Jade - Jade has a fantastic voice and stage presence. Her voice is more suited for being a solo singer.

5 Amelle - I liked the image and vibe she brought to the group, but I found her annoying and tone deaf. While it was not her fault, I felt she was a carbon copy of Mutya which always frustrated me.

6 Heidi - I will always appreciate the hard work she brought to the Sugababes. But I never liked her, and felt she stuck out like a sore thumb in the group. Her image did not gel with Mutya and Keisha, and I found her voice live incredibly off putting. She was always flat and rather tone-deaf. . I always felt their was a fakeness to her which made me uncomfortable. She would have been better with Atomic Kitten, Girls Aloud, or even The Cheeky Girls.
