There's always two options if a track can't be found and I have used both.

Firstly, find the higest quality YouTube version and download it from there using a YouTube ripping site. If that sounds good then use it

Secondly, If the quality of the YouTube rip isn't up to standard, use Audacity to edit your longer version using the YouTube rip as a guide. This obviously takes time, patience and a decent ear.

Is there a theme to your 1991 compilation or is a personal Now style comp?

Thank you Colm. There was no specific theme as such, just a personal Now type compilation with some of my favourite singles of 1991 on although I had planned to have Disc 1 as more pop/rock influenced and Disc 2 as more rave/dance.

I'll have a go at editing the 12” mix of “Human Nature”, I've since found a different mix with the original Billy Graham 1958 speech on it which would make an interesting edit. I do have Audacity as I've had to edit songs before for my end of year compilations that I send out to my friends at Christmas but the end result is usually amateur to say the least.. I'll give it a go though!

My other (very expensive) method has been buying up the CD singles of rare 90s singles from Discogs and then simply ripping them but that does take time, and money..

If only everything was available to download. :(

can you share the 12" of Human Nature to my Dropbox and send me a link to the 7" YouTube clip so I can use that as a guide - please. And I'll have a go at editing it too.

Will do, I'm sure that you'll do a much better job !

I think I might also do a Now 1991 for myself. I think we know from before that there will be plenty of tracks in common to both our comps, DrB.

Are you trying to keep disc length to 80:00?

Another slightly easier solution is to work out how much time you have left on the disc and then judiciously trim the 12" version to fit and call it Human Nature (2021 Edit)

I've just noticed that radio edit of Human Nature has no middle 8.

It's just verse, prechorus, chorus, verse, prechorus, chorus to fade.

Yes, I'm trying to keep it to under 80 minutes so that I can burn it to CD - also, I think it makes a better quality compilation if you restrict it rather than placing no limits leading to it becoming unwieldy and including loads of filler.

I'm also trying to restrict it to no more than 1 per artist but the KLF are making that REALLY hard for me! (The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu count as being different, right?)

Yeah, maybe it could do with one. I've had a go at mixing an edit and tried to break it up a bit, but my effort is, well it's pretty rubbish tbf. :(

I'll let you know when I've sorted the preliminary tracklist - will post it in here Colm. Thanks for your help by the way mate !

That edit sounds ok. What do you think is rubbish about it?

You're so right about the KLF making life difficult. I'm having a struggle with Erasure (Chorus/Love to Hate You) and REM(Losing My Religion/Near Wild Heaven).

I haven't got as far as deciding what goes where. There's a lot of dance but a good few new age/world music/laid back tracks too.

This is in no way a final tracklist Colm (nor have I got any kind of sequencing sorted) - but I wanted to play around with a few ideas. This is idea 1 !

Apols for the lack of formatting, I did this all in Paintbrush on my Mac.

Ok, so I have 15 of those.

I had 16 but I took off International Bright Young Thing this morning.

I still haven't decided if I should put Smells Like Teen Spirit on it or not.

Compact disc 2 is :dancing:

15 is a good match Colm, I didn't expect that much of a crossover between our tastes. *.*

Oh yeah CD2 is dropping more BANGAHs than a clumsy butcher.
