Posted May 31, 20214 yr 30th May 2021 It's straight in on top for Cher's classic 1971 drama-epic Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves, which was denied the top spot at the time by virtue of clashing with other classics, but that wrong has been righted this week as a bunch of Cher tracks make the itunes charts - I know not why, but prob some promo somewhere. I've only been waiting 50 years for an excuse, cos I love that record to bits, and it gives Cher a 7th chart-topper, dating from the 60's (I Got You Babe charted as an oldie), 70's (Dark Lady), 90's (3 of 'em) and one in 2014 to boot. That blocks the highest Eurovision track from the top spot (Norway's TIX). Dadi Freyr improves on 2020's Eurovision woulda-winner by going top 10, Keith Urban is the highest climber shooting into the top 30 for yet another on his rapid run of top 40's of late, while there's oodles of climbers in a massively over-crowded chart (I could easily expand to a top 120 at the mo, if it wasn't such hard work!) and new entries from: Paloma Faith with her latest Monster, Roisin Murphy also banging out another from the album, Jubel & Regard following-up, and 3 veteran returns: Spandau Ballet last made my charts in the 2009 comeback, and now Gary Kemp gets his first solo entry 41 years on since they debuted; Joan Armatrading debuted 45 years ago with Love & Affection, at a time when being female, black and gay was a bit of a challenge, and she's now back for the first time in nearly 30 years with new material charting, hooray! UB40 also return - or rather it's the half of the band who havent charted recently as Ali Campbell & former UB40 mates, but had charted just before them. It's all very schizophrenic, these brotherly rifts in pop. I adore it. Believers is okay I guess but I've definitely heard better from both of them. Ooo Dusk coming for that top 40 position :cheer: Heartbreak Anthem storming up your chart!! What I like to see. It's fantastic!! A shame then that Please isn't replicating its success. Yay for Monster entering. It's not anywhere near her best tracks in terms of catchiness but she can't be perfect all the time :kink: Fab chart!! ^_^

You never stop loving your faves from your teens :D Dusk not quite there yet as my chart is jampacked right now, but it would normally be top 30/20 by now. Please is still very nice and would normally be top 40 for how much I like it - but packed charts etc. Paloma is constantly fab, I've loved her since Stone Cold Sober debuted and seen her twice in concert :cheer: Cheers! I have no idea whats on TV these days, I never check listings so if I don't catch a trailer I am unaware. I don't know how Gypsies got on the "At the BBC" theme as it very much wasn't on UK TV at the time it was a hit - they had a TOTP el cheapo video on the show (I had a discussion with mum that I thought it was a new group called Cher as it didn't sound like Sonny & Cher, and mum insisted it was actual Cher, quite rightly) and she was busy with The Sonny & Cher hit TV show in the US so wasn't over in the UK promoting it...! Must have been a later special or something, or a clip from their US show. I remember Cher doing Half Breed on a horse, so that's possible :D Young Summer should have done better in BJSC! Heartbreak Anthem is instantly catchy, and a hook never hurts in Eurovision! :lol: Marshmello could end up having royalties paid out to Air Supply's Graham Russell and Geoff Morrow & friends aka Butterscotch the band (who had a hit with Don't You Know in 1970) if it gets to be a big hit.....
