In second place, only just sneaking there because of more top scores, we have Vogue. Taken from Madonna's second soundtrack album I'm Breathless, the song is inspired by the 70s disco and by vogue dancers and choreographers from the Harlem "House Ball" community where the danceform originated. It is a song about escapism - finding escape on the dancefloor no matter who you are or where you're from. It's frequently highlighted as a career high for Madonna and is one of the best selling singles of the 90s. The David Fincher directed music video takes inspiration from the 20s and 30s and is often cited as one of the greatest music videos of all time. I wanted to rate all 65 ( :o ) top 20 Madonna singles, maybe will do it in the next year.

 

 

My favourite Madonna single won, so I am definitely happy. There were some shocks along the way but i'm happy with this represenation of 2021 Madonna listeners' preferences. It's such a killer list of songs and the averages reflect that.

 

The closeness of the top 5 is ridiculous. Literally a point higher here or there could have changed the top 5 massively! I wonder what the order will look like a few years in the future should we ever re-do this :o

 

Also - thanks for all the comments throughout, it's been such a busy thread suggesting you all have a great passion for her singles. :heart: Long may that continue!

I've loved this whole post, so thank you to whoever organised it.

 

So so happy that Like A Prayer didn't win (after the Eurovision disaster, I don't think I want to ever hear it again), and whilst some brilliant tracks should have been much higher (and some much lower), I'm happy that Vogue won. A great top 2.

Would have preferred Vogue at No.1 (or Like a Prayer), but fully understand how Frozen took the crown.

'Frozen' is just astounding, it never fails to make the hairs on my arms stand up.

Frozen is such a amazing video. I truly love it a lot.

Just stumbled upon this and I'm so happy to see Frozen won, it's not just my favourite Madonna song, but probably in my top 20 of all time.

 

It's also the first Madonna song I ever remember hearing back when it was released. I hated it at the time, but at some stage it just clicked and now I love it!
